By the way, folks if you see someone breaking the lockdown and not an essential worker, don't call 111 - leave that for emergencies. You can use 105 or email nhccselfisolation@health.govt.nz.

My neighbours arrived at their bach (which is next door) on Friday afternoon, well after they ought not to have done. However I am not dobbing them in because no one else can see them but us and I suppose there are some legitimate reasons as to why they might have arrived then (self isolating having just arrived back in NZ perhaps) and since I have to live with them I am not souring relations forever...!

Evidently domestic travel was allowed until 11:59pm Friday as there was a backlog of people getting home to enter lockdown.

Probably spread the virus around a bit more as everyone scrambled, but they’ll now be in place for four weeks.

On Saturday I saw a man who lives in my street walking home with a large black rubbish bag. A lot of people who live in Palmy Nth might recognise this man, as he walks for miles picking up aluminum cans to make some cash.

I'd be kinda surprised if the police haven't spoken to him as they must know his activities. He's known to rummage through council rubbish bins looking for cans.

Ashley Bloomfield is currently my hero!

He got his first day off in quite some time.

NZ'r of the year for me so far.

The person I believe who should have the greatest pats and plaudits is our world renown 'Pink Haired' microbiologist Associate Professor Siouxsie Wiles who specialises in infectious diseases and bioluminescence.

Even before COVID-19 she had a huge reputation of laying out the facts in easy to understand language. She was a finalist NZ of the Year in 2018. Well she should get it this year. Then maybe in a couple of years: The New Zealand Order of Merit or The Order of New Zealand. Then further down the track, a Knight Hood from the Queen/King. She is a huge asset to NZ and the world in her research and knowledge.

She is a super bioluminescent creature in her own right. 🌟

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

On the subject of masks, where can we buy them? Practically the only businesses still open are petrol stations, supermarkets and dairys. I got some sanding masks around here somewhere. Maybe I'll chuck one of those goddamned things on.

https://www.interest.co.nz/opinion/104298/despite-any-attempts-diversify-away-china-exports-china-will-be-increasingly

"Some of the keyboard warriors are currently unwilling to accept that China has to a large extent managed to stamp out COVID-19 and is opening up for business. My own Kiwi-China networks all confirm that China really is getting back to work, albeit not yet fully there."

And

"Apart from China, and arguably some other North-Asian countries, we in New Zealand are in as good a position as any. Our current lockdown has come close to ten days too late, and that surely has increased the challenges we now face. But most places are in a much worse situation. I have been writing about the broader issues of COVID-19 for the last six weeks here at interest.co.nz

My expectation in light of the above is that, like it or not, China is going to become even more important as an export destination over the next few months. The movement is going to be major and not just at the margins."

Why swear at something that might save your life?

Immigrant communities are bringing masks in from China but the news is that hospitals don't want them.

There's a factory in Whanganui producing 60k a day but that productions may be for dhbs.

Oh you mean the same Siouxsie Wiles who was out and about at restaurants well past the time most people had decided that was an unnecessary risk? Who just the day before had posted this tweet, urging everyone to stay home for the safety of health workers? And then the day after posted this tweet, demonstrating the importance of staying home?

My heroes are all these who are on below minimum wage and abiding by the rules. Must be very tough with cupboards poorly stocked with no Sky or Netflix and maybe no internet.

It is obvious that you didn't even read her post before pulling out your high horse to jump atop Here is a piece for you....

"Called ahead to ask about Covid-19 planning. They staggered dinning and spaced out tables"

@iamaelephant I have edited your post and removed the last sentence. Unnecessary by all means.

I read it. She went out. To a restaurant. After urging everyone (correctly) to stay at home.

Honestly, screw her. She is a hypocrite and her behaviour is a danger to us all.

Seriously? You're going to crucify her for going out to one restaurant, that she took reasonable (for the time) precautions for?

This is going off topic, but I'm not "crucifying" her, how ridiculous. But I certainly don't believe that a public figure who behaves so irresponsibly - and brags about it on Twitter - deserves to be NZer of the year.
