Might be time to go and dig out an S10 I think!

Although, I imagine the majority of the general population would brick themselves if their doc or nurse came at them with one on!

I pulled my S6 out and test fitted it. Still fits ok, but the straps have perished a little. but still useable.

i suspect wearing to go grocery shopping wouldn't go down to well though.

I did see a photo of a bloke wearing a welding helmet. We be got similar at work that provide filtered air from a waist-pack. Cracked me up.

Ack the point at the grocery store, although you'll be safe...

You shouldn't advise on something you know nothing about.

You need to check the sanding mask to see what the specifications are.

This is labelled P2 which is short for FFP2, and it's the equivalent of a N95 mask. It's used for protection against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

I see that their Palmerston North shop has stock but now it's too late to buy from them unless you're trade.

Check to see what sanding masks you have at home. I have some of the ones labelled P1 which is insufficient.

I wear masks a lot for work so don't think I'm offering advice on something I know nothing about.

My comment was aimed at people who don't understand most of the cheaper "dust" masks are only P1 rated and offer zero protection rather than P2/N95 protection.

Can someone clarify for me? I thought masks were about preventing *you* from infecting other people, that they are a one-way thing. So wearing a mask if you aren't infected won't do anything: it won't prevent you from getting infected, and (since you're not infected) it won't stop anyone else from getting infected.

Normal masks and protection: prevents others to be infected from you. These can be sewed by people who have to go food shopping - it's ok to prevent spreading as much as possible.

FFP-2 or N95 masks: Protection of medical personel (or you - if you have the luxury) to be infected. This is what runs out first due to high demand of med. personnel.

FFP-3 masks: The same as FFP-2 and up - but much harder to breath.

It should be noted, that any touch of your face is a high risk. So please wash your hands frequently (at least once per hour) and after touching anything in public (door locks, door opener, ...)

I have heard people use this logic in states of America where motorcycle helmets are not compulsory. 'Helmets don't stop everyone from dying in crashes therefore you are better off not wearing them'. I personally think this logic is somewhat flawed.

We decided to drive to a Countdown that was a little further away than the closest one to our home as it has a Chemist in store a sensible thought we assumed as it meant only one stop and less risk and exposure. However we were stopped by a Police patrol and asked what our purpose was for being on the road. We told the officer that we needed some groceries and some Pharmacy only medication he told us we needed to go to the closest store to our home. When we tried to explain that we were going to a store that is a grocery store and chemist he was not interested and kept interrupting us. He told us to turn around and go to a grocery store closer. He was not interested and told us not to argue and he became quite aggressive.

I realise they are under pressure and we were polite the entire time we talked to him. He could see the mobility card on our screen and it was clear that we were being truthful. I don't believe we were being unreasonable or doing anything wrong. We turned around and went home as we did not want to get arrested. It was very upsetting and stressful. We will have to go out again tomorrow and go to a grocery and a Chemist to get they medication.

Be careful out there as this nation has very much changed.

It sucks but the police are dealing with the lowest common denominator. If the general population was more sensible the the policing could be more flexible. Unfortunately when clowns are willfully breaking the rules everyone stuffers.

So the Police prevented you from obtaining medication? If so, that is outrageous given that going to get medication is specified as an allowed activity.

File a complaint if that is what happened.

No, from the description the police asked him to go back to his nearer store. They didn't say he wasn't allowed to be out for that.

This is disturbing. My guess (and that's all it is) is that there are still many people not taking the isolation rules seriously and the police have been instructed to crack down. You may have been just been unlucky in that regard but maybe they have been told to strictly enforce the rules regardless.

Lots of mask discussion in the past few pages. I found this video, made a week ago by a doctor who works at a New York City hospital, to be interesting:

(Long watch, nearly an hour) He talks about when he wears N95 masks, and when he wears non-N95 masks, in his daily work caring for COVID-19 patients - and he also discusses masks for the general public a few times. For the public he sees them as useful for training to avoid face touching. For example, a brief transcript from around 15:00 in the video:

"Start to learn how to not touch your face, a really good way to do that is to start wearing a mask when you're out - and if you want to practice, wear a mask when you're home ... you don't need an N95 mask or a medical mask. Any mask will do because this is not preventing the disease, this is training you."

No, the police prevented him doing it in the specific way he wanted, instead choosing to enforce their own very reasonable rule of STAY LOCAL.

Have the MoH said anything about DNA testing of the virus as part of their contact tracing? It would help prove links. eg if the strain of virus matches with the strain on the Ruby Princess then there is a probable link.
