We were out today to get some groceries and I needed some medication only available from a Chemist. We decided to drive to a Countdown that was a little further away than the closest one to our home as it has a Chemist in store a sensible thought we assumed as it meant only one stop and less risk and exposure. However we were stopped by a Police patrol and asked what our purpose was for being on the road. We told the officer that we needed some groceries and some Pharmacy only medication he told us we needed to go to the closest store to our home. When we tried to explain that we were going to a store that is a grocery store and chemist he was not interested and kept interrupting us. He told us to turn around and go to a grocery store closer.  He was not interested and told us not to argue and he became quite aggressive.

I realise they are under pressure and we were polite the entire time we talked to him. He could see the mobility card  on our screen and it was clear that we were being truthful. I don't believe we were being unreasonable or doing anything wrong. We turned around and went home as we did not want to get arrested. It was very upsetting and stressful. We will have to go out again tomorrow and go to a grocery and a Chemist to get they medication.

Be careful out there as this nation has very much changed.

if he was a local cop then he should have better area knowledge, he should also know that countdown has zero pharmaceutical fees. If outside area then he may not know this about which local countdowns have pharmaces and which do not.

a bit of poor show here

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I wear masks a lot for work so don't think I'm offering advice on something I know nothing about.

My comment was aimed at people who don't understand most of the cheaper "dust" masks are only P1 rated and offer zero protection rather than P2/N95 protection.

I have to ask, do they really offer zero protection?

If it's spread by droplets surely anything is better than nothing?

Have the MoH said anything about DNA testing of the virus as part of their contact tracing?  It would help prove links. eg if the strain of virus matches with the strain on the Ruby Princess then there is a probable link.

It's a RNA virus.  ESR has the ability to sequence its genome but at what capacity?  The normal labs won't be able to do this.

So far the mutations are not increasing the lethality of the virus.

520 ICUs for the whole country sounds not too much.

Your chance is to act super-disciplined and finally start not thinking about yourself. If everyone else protects from themselves, everyone is protected!

Yesterday we had a devastating hit of the virus in a retirement home. The virus was brought by a young visitor of "Granny" five days before.

A FFP1 is 4/10 of the filtering ability of a FFP2.

Better than nothing as we are not filtering virus, we are filtering droplets of mucus/protein/virus being expelled into the air.

No idea if it has any protection against so called nuclear droplets.

I see Germany is flying in very sick patients from Italy as they have excess capacity whereas Italy has none now in those areas where the virus is raging.

Yes we do but it's clear this can only be a small gesture ... we prepare for a wave next week. The ladies in lockdown sew mask for the whole hell, even the prisoners volunteer to sew. The goal is to safe FFP-2 for the medical personnel staying in frontline.

I can’t resist: Shan Soe-Lin and Robert Hecht (clinical professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health) say “Guidance against wearing masks for the coronavirus is wrong – you should cover your face”.

“Cover your face. Nonmedical masks should be worn by everyone going outside. Inexpensive cloth masks are available for purchase online. Alternatively, scarves, bandana-style neck gaiters, and other similar face coverings can work effectively.”

Yale epidemiologist get’s my vote versus the WHO...

My uncle's sister niece tested positive in Berlin yesterday :( she has no symptoms apart from rare couth and wierd taste in the mouth. She was tested because she was in contact with someone during the work few days ago.

She feels well and currently at home, but main issue - they live together with extended family: parents, kids, grandparents too. Officials did not tell any of the family members to undergo coronavirus test just yet...

To give scale to my situation. From home to the nearest Supermarket 7km then 4km to a chemist. To the Supermarket with a Chemist 9km.

Sadly, there are a number of people here who won't put up with any criticisms of the NZ health dept's advice and will accuse you of undermining the efforts of our leadership.

Hopefully she is in strict isolation from the rest of the family otherwise ...

The whole family is considered as infected as long the test result will not be negative. The whole family should ask neighbours for food supply with no physical contact.
