I don't have a phobia, but a mutual dislike

Rolled the sleeve, turned away. And when she saw this and asked if I would like a countdown. I didn't quite hear it, said "sorry?"

"Nevermind, I was going to count from 10.. but too bad, it's in."

As above. Tiny gauge needle and throw away syringe. Not like the thicker single dose flu unit

Didn't feel a thing, both times. Both nights sleep was an annoyance however

(There's going to be large global plastics waste here lol..)

Thus far, none of the adverse effects my workmates did. But early days. Only a few occasional head thuds before bed. But not panadol worthy. Just toss and turning restlessness, likely from all the water she suggested be drunk to circulate it faster.

James Bond:

Handsomedan:

Booked in for my jab along with my wife at the back end of September.

We can take our 14 year old, without an appointment of his own, but it looks like we can't take our 16 year old, as he falls outside the parameters...am I right in this thinking, or have I got my wires crossed?

It's going to be challenging enough as it is, because both myself and my 14yo are horrifically needle phobic, so already having a few freakout moments. Would be good if we can all just get it over and done in one hit, so to speak.

Can you book on behalf of your 16 year old at the same time as you? or within 10 minutes?

That's what me and my wife did. Couldn't do it at the same time but 6 minutes apart.

I did this with my Mr12. However; it was 6 hours apart. His ended up being morning, mine afternoon. As I had to take him there I just asked could I get mine done now too and they were perfectly fine with that. I guess it may be different center to center and the people you deal with. I think they're being as pragmatic as they can be and since it was the same day there was no chance of running out of doses for the day. They just took a bit longer to find my name and cross it off their daily list :)

If in doubt - see if you can phone up the center. I did find the 0800 a little unhelpful here as they were just clearly checking if there were open slots the same way you or I would on the book my vaccine site.

Have to say the whole process of getting vaccinated was pretty good!

I honestly felt absolutely nothing with this one! If the person hadn't said "ok you're done" I wouldn't have known.

Curious on peoples thought's around timing and side effects.

I had my first a few weeks ago (02/08) and was due to have my 2nd on 23/08 but rescheduled to 10/09 after the advice changed from 3 weeks to 6 between. Also partly because I wanted to change to a Friday after the 1st jab knocked me around a bit (headache, nausea, some fatigue on the day, barely got out of bed 2nd day, was still fatigued for a couple of days after that). Everyone who I've talked to either had no side effects or milder ones so I just seem to have drawn the short straw. All mine were known and "common" side effects, but like most people I wasn't really expecting to get any lol.

My first had zero side effects, my 2nd made me incredibly sleepy but nothing more.  My friend's 2nd however resulted in a fever, headache, and a night of rigors.  So there definitely are people getting bad side effects.

I wonder, and I am talking out my rear here, if most people get side effects on their second dose - perhaps you have already caught covid at some stage and your body was turbo charge dealing with it?

I would double check before you go.  My brother who lives in Upper Hutt got his jab recently and they had a sign up saying no unbooked children were allowed to accompany their parents.  So best to find out first.

The person who did my jab did discuss potential side affects and also said they're more likely after the second dose. Only affect I and my son had was a sore arm around the jab point which we were told was likely. Nothing bad at all just an annoyance. Bit like having been given a dead arm as a kid TBH.

Hmmm....that's quite an issue then. I doubt we'd get him there with his own appointment, as such - he'd need to be with us and going through the same as me or it simply won't happen. THere's no appointments available on the same day as us, at our chosen site.

Pfft, those hardly qualify as needles 😀 When I first started as a blood donor they used to inject a small amount of anesthetic before the heavier needle went in. Then it changed to a squirt from an aerosol cold spray before dropping any foreplay entirely. Looking back I wonder why it took so long. I feel sorry for those with a needle phobia but the only needle I can ever say was painful was in the ball of my foot.

Yes, I was also surprised at how painless the covid shots were. Don't actually remember the second shot going in, so tried to find the hole when I got home to make sure I had actually had it.

No reaction to either shot.

I had my first does three weeks before I got my second dose earlier this week. I generally get reactions to vaccinations so it was no surprise to get debilitating symptoms about 23 hours after each dose.

1. Extreme tiredness, recurring headaches, and continual joint pain which tapered away during the third week.

2. Same after one day but tapered away by the next day.

I did appear to get one surprising benefit from the vaccination. I had chronic inflammation in one of my joints which disappeared. The cartilage was highly reactive so I got pain with any pressure on the joint even in normal use. I suspect that the vaccine caused acute inflammation which then replaced the chronic inflammation. I've never heard of this happening but I'm happy to get rid of many years of daily pain.

Maybe you got one of the shots that had the real virus, not vaccine or saline?

What shots? Why suggest something that would never happen?

Got a text message and email reminder last night, and another this morning around 8am for my second vaccine appointment.

Second dose in my arm this morning, courtesy of the Mt Wellington centre. Very smooth, quick, and easy process, and everyone was super friendly and upbeat - really impressed overall and my thanks to the team there.

No side effects so far, but we'll see how it goes.

Just a question for those who have had the vaccine (I am having my first jab on Tuesday).

Just wondering if those who are younger (than my 70 years) and have a better immune system have more side effects from the jab ?

Thanks and Regards

We had our first dose on 30th July and were booked in to have the second yesterday at 4.30pm. Unfortunately the 2nd shot was cancelled at the last minute as there were too many walk ins (shouldn't they have been turned away first?), who I assume were there for their first jab.

Now booked in for the 2nd jab tomorrow.

Anyhow, our reactions from the 1st jab

Me - 56. A slightly sore shoulder for a couple of days and a minor runny nose for 3-5 days (I hear this is your immune system working hard)

Wife - 49. Sore shoulder and perhaps a slight headache (she often gets headaches, and no not because of me.....I think, so not sure if it was related).

Sons - 19 & 17. Just carried on being annoying teenagers.

So, very minor for us. Will post an update next week to say how we go after the 2nd jab.
