jonathan18: ... I just read about someone whose husband tested positive, then the kids a few days later; she tested positive on day 10, so will have an additional 10 days...

But only for her. Husband & kids can resume normal life ... based on my understanding of these two paragraphs from the "Guidance for household close contacts" updated on 2022/02/24

Yep, I never meant to indicate the whole family would need to isolate for 20 days and hadn't assumed it would be (mis)read as that.

There is obviously other bugs circulating at the moment which are just like omicron.

I haven't had a cold/flu in over a year (haven't been to the Dr in years), then just over a week ago got all the omicron symptoms (scratchy throat, headache, sneezing, runny nose, aches), had a PCR test, and got my negative result back in less than 24 hours.

That passed in 2 days, but then over the recent weekend came down again with something similar (throat, achy, headaches, etc), took a RAT test, negative.
And now back to normal.

With people thinking the precautions of keeping stuff uncontaminated and clean wearing off 2yrs on and considering it a lip service
It's no real wonder.

We avoided any winter illness last 2 seasons by avoiding each other and keeping the cleanliness up.

Now, peeps seem to be all.. go ahead and use that mask that has been in your Pocket for 2 weeks. And go on, walk right on by that alcohol sanitizer bottle at the doors...

☺️ np. I didn't misread it. Just spelling it out clearly as some people still are not sure if the clock resets for the whole household.

antant: As I understand it, once you test positive, there is no need to test negative on Day 10 ... (although, this does appear to be creating confusion for people).

“After 10 days, and as long as you are free of COVID-19 symptoms, you will be free to leave isolation. You do not need to be tested. If you were, the result would likely show as positive but that does not mean you are infectious.”

https://covid19.govt.nz/isolation-and-care/what-happens-if-you-test-positive-for-covid-19/----> Step 6: Ending self-isolation

Thx for the link.

My link was to a document for household contacts. Your link is for a person that tested positive with COVID-19. I take that as different rules for different circumstances.

Same for me. I had all of the above symptoms over a few days, RATs all negative. It went away and came back, got a PCR, still negative. Feel fine now.

But given the number of cases, the number of people I've had contact with over the last few weeks, and the number of people I know who have had Covid, it really feels like statistically it should have been Covid.

We were asking each other at work today who thinks they'd be the first to get the 'vid.  I don't think any of us have actually caught it yet in our building.  Conclusion seemed to be based around how many kids you have :p

Me lad's classroom has had two cases so far with numbers rising very slowly across the school.

Optimism is rising - is there a chance that it dies out before everyone gets it?

Everyone is on board at work which surprises some people with other places around town with half of their staff operating be it due to isolation or split shifts.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

The majority of clients with cases at home, and in my socials feed have been taken out by their kids.

All fun and games seated in the classroom. Quite the disregard and easy spreading outside it it would seem.

Not everyone is catching it in workplaces and households. This has been the case in New Zealand and overseas.

From memory, the risk of catching it in a household with someone infectious with Covid omicron is between 15-50%. In my household, 3 of 5 didn’t catch it.

As Covid 19 gets worse, the War in Europe, business becoming very tough anxiety and stress is taking a heavy toll on me. For the sake of my mental and physical health I am taking a break from social media and Geekzone. If I get a notification that I have a Private Message I will when I am able respond but I apologise in advance if it takes a while. So I will be absent for the duration.

Take care folks, stay safe, stay well and I will hopefully be back in the future.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It's a good choice to do this. Take care, see you when you are feeling better.

Hopefully I'm in the correct thread for this post now !

----

Day 9 for me today. I still have a sore throat each morning and still struggle for breath most of the day. It's worse when I shower, I just cant fill my lungs, and when I do, I immediately cough.

It's very similar to when I had pneumonia. I'll be keeping an eye on it and going to the doctor if it's still like this next week.

Last night was the first time I felt hungry too. I've lost 2kgs but have had to force myself to eat, I don't feel hungry at all this morning.

I hope all of you who got positive results (or your family and friends) have a speedy recovery.

@martyyn

If you haven't already, you need to call your doctor. Today. I believe you don't live alone so you have people monitoring you.. Hypoxia can be an issue and it can cause euphoria (which is the start of really bad things) leading you to believe you are less sick than you are). Having trouble breathing is not a good thing with Covid particularly.

Do you have an Oximeter?

I appreciate the concern @networkn, believe me we are all over it.

I spoke with the local surgery the other day to discuss everything and they are happy with how we are managing it. This isn't our first rodeo and we wont be taking any chances. We agreed to see how things went over the weekend.
