Rikkitic:

I'm sorry it has reached you. The husband of a young person I am close to also has it. Her mum is a close friend and in my bubble. I depend on her for my shopping so that is a worry. This is the first time it has impacted anyone I know. It may have also reached some antivax friends but that is not certain.

I can't speak to your weird ankle symptoms, but years of playing with computers and associated devices have repeatedly taught me that extraordinary coincidence is a regular feature of our reality. I can't begin to tell how many times I have been fed red herrings by completely unrelated things going wrong in similar ways at the same time.

Thanks. I am just hoping if we do get it in our household we get it mildly. Given the few other things I have going on like Asthma, it's a bit scary, but no point in worrying about something I cannot control.

We have had number of weird things turn up that my wife and I have gotten a few days apart that don't seem possible to be transmittable, even weird things like some days we will both sleep badly for the same reason.

/me shrugs.

What are your thoughts on when we should get my 10yo son's second vaccination jab?

His first covid vaccination was mid Jan.

He caught covid 27th Feb, so should have some natural immunity now, assuming it was Omicron we caught and not Delta.

We had been planning 3 months from the first jab (govt was saying 8 weeks but I think this was just to get as much vaccines in arms as fast as possible), but should we now wait 3 months from the date of his infection to try and drag out his immunity?

I'll check and confirm with my wife, but 90 days after he got Covid. He will have immunity until then give or take.

Confirmed. Either 90 Days after all his symptoms resolved or if he didn't have any, then 90 days from his positive result.

Three weeks after my first symptoms I suddenly got worse. Sore chest front and back. Doctor has prescribed a cocktail of medications which made a difference yesterday, not so much today. My SpO2 levels have not been too bad but I’m very sore and exhausted. On the positive side no runny nose or sore throat which would make me feel miserable.

Sorry to hear it, try to rest as much as you can and keep a close eye on your symptoms, if things deteriote, contact medical staff without delay.

That is a bugger to hear; hope things start to come right soon.

Interesting timing to read this, as only this morning I read this piece from an NPR reporter who took six weeks to start feeling better - she discusses the reality of the (not insignificant number of) people who fall in the middle between a relatively quick recovery and long COVID - what she calls 'medium COVID'.

Well so far my household has gotten through fairly well. Eldest child tested positive after two days of symptoms. Household was in isolation for the required 7 days (rules changed during our iso period) and neither of the other kids or myself came down with it. Was somewhat surprising. Second child had a mild sore throat for a couple of days but had multiple negative RATs over the next 5 days.
It was very easy to get RATs from the Avondale collection centre.
The eldest had two days of moderate-bad cold symptoms then several days of lingering cough and was fine after that. We are all fully vaccinated and I am vaxxed and boosted.

Cheers,
Joseph

Unfortunately, a friend of ours lost her mother last night to Covid. It happened pretty quickly and there will be some questions asked of her care at some stage I suspect, but one thing it re-iterates clearly is the importance of having someone monitor you somewhat closely if you have it, for you oxygen stats and general well being.

It's very sobering to have something closer to home and our first real brush with a Covid related death within our (albeit extended) circle.

I am nearly nearly to the point I can have my booster, which I am very very keen to have. Everything is risk benefit, but it feels horrible having to make difficult choices between one type of issue and a potential other one.

If I can get through the next 10 days unscathed that will be fantastic.

My daughter had her second this week, took it like a champ but had a fever for 24 hours. Was pretty well considering how high it was, and we kept her home from school as a precaution.

Was her mother in hospital or at home?

On a personal note, father-in-law, who caught covid at the hospital (where he was for an unrelated non-physical assessment for ten days) has recovered and moved back to the assessment ward.

I don't think I should say too much at this stage sorry. Not in hospital though.

Glad to hear your FIL is making a full recovery.

The lad tested positive an hour after I started work this morning so I’ve gone back home. He had mentioned feeling warm yesterday but that didn’t raise any alarm bells. He’s otherwise mostly fine.

Couldn’t submit his result through the app and when I rang the 0800 number to do so they suggested lots of other people have been experiencing the same. Fortunately there wasn’t any wait on the call.

Hopefully I’ve not taken it to work! I feel fine today but had a slight headache yesterday … side from maybe my cheeks and now the back of my neck feeling a bit warm …

I (36M) tested positive last Friday and fortunately my symptoms have been less than what I normally experience with a cold, which I credit to the vaccine. On Thursday evening I had a tingly nose and an irritation in my throat - not sore, just weird feeling. I still had it in the morning so I applied for some RATs and picked them up from the collection point and pretty much as soon as I put the fluid in the tester the double lines appeared. Since then my symptom has only really been a stuffy nose that occasionally became runny. No sore throat, no fatigue, no fever, no aches, etc.

Naturally, my partner has tested negative the whole time. Maybe because his booster was more recent than mine?

It can sometimes take time to build enough infection to register for a RATS. Just check for symptoms regularly and test a day or two after that.

Household transmission rates are about 40% apparently.

Just checking in to say I am still on planet earth. This week has been a nightmare. My wife tested positive on Monday. The last two days she has been very ill. Today I am concerned about her O2 levels. Her normal is 98% but this morning she has dropped to 91% and the oxymeter beeps a lot. Her BP is ok and temperature is OK. She is coughing a lot and has coughing fits.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
