Here we go, someone moaning that they are being held prisoner. All these people seem to understand/ care about is their own wants/needs.

They don't seem to understand the bigger picture. Looks like he came from Australia, if he's gonna moan send him back.

"Novotel guests held against will"

When they came in they knew the rules.

Stop crying and grow up.

Supposedly. Not peer-reviewed, from a press release.

A drug that helps in ICU treatment of covid-19

Your link didn't work - here's a BBC article.

Dexamethasone is a steroid, it probably helps with preventing "cytokine storm" - turning your lung tissue into jellymeat.
It probably doesn't help with secondary infection risk, including nosocomial infections which are probably common especially with ventilated patients - for which this seemed to show a 30% reduction in mortality for ventilated patients, a smaller reduction for patients on oxygen.  The study hasn't been peer reviewed, but has been met with great excitement by UK politicians.  It'll be interesting to see - especially thorough investigation of exclusion criteria for study participants.
Anyway the UK media etc has jumped on this as if it's a silver bullet - and it probably isn't.

Yes - snap.

People are desperate for answers.  At least this is more hopeful than Trump's endorsement of hydroxychloroquine.  We'll see.   I'd rather focus on not getting C-19 than get excited about a drug which *might* slightly reduce the chance of dying from it.

It’s being prescribed by the UK health service so they seem to believe it.

Sideface:

Petition calls for UK to declare war on New Zealand to help win Covid-19 battle

today

A UK resident has come up with an unusual plan to beat Covid-19 in the country: have the government declare war on New Zealand, then immediately surrender.

By doing so, it's hoped Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern would become the leader of the UK as well. ...

According to the petition, declaring war then surrendering would invoke an international law which would see current UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson deposed and replaced with Ms Ardern. ...

The petition gathered several hundred signatures but appears to have been deleted.

..Yes David Clark is the Minister. Buck stops with him. Who runs the Ministry? Dr Bloomfield. Does that mean that he is protected from losing his role?

I cant understand how they are the only 2 people who didnt know of serious issues with the system.
Every week I hear of issues with the guarantee/Isolation, how slack the whole process has been. Those in isolation mixing with the public , no testing being done before release, no follow ups or checking
on isolation . Those Quarantined/in isolation ignoring the rules .
Every week, since day 1.

Yet these 2 assumed all was OK .

This is true. It's called she'll be right.

concordnz: It's interesting that there is claims on Stuff.
That the women also lied about going straight to Wellington without stopping.
(There is allegations in Parliament they got lost & headed north & another relative went & found them & pointed them in the right direction (after getting a kiss & cuddle from them).

I wonder what else these two women have lied to officials about.....

Does anyone remember the words "It's a high-trust environment. The vast majority of people understand their role and comply"

I've worked 10+ years at 2 DHBs, but no longer, so I'm free of any backlash. Having left before covid-19, I can't comment on that, but generally speaking agree with whatever your wife told you. The MoH seemed inept and clumsy at every level I dealt with, and operated in its own ivory tower, careless and ignorant of what happened at DHBs. I think it's telling that David Clark set up his separate expert advisory group to provide him with advice that he should have been getting from his Ministry. MoH's IT systems and people are somewhere back in the 1990s, I think.

You pretty much have it bang on. "Arrogant", "incompetent" and "obnoxious" featured highly in her descriptions of the MoH bureaucrats.

FineWine:

Stuff just popped up and stated that "At this point, there are 320 identified close contacts" with the Travelling Wellington pair.

the next Herald article better not read something like - our contact tracing is not capable of tracing 320 close contacts

that would not be good news

fingers crossed

The bulk of those will be other people in that same facility, so not as much of a bombshell as it seems.

The real problem is whether they mixed with anyone who subsequently left the facility and went out into the community.

Then all bets are off.
