Part of me wonders whether it would've made more sense for MoH to just jump on Rippl rather than trying to build a competing app since WCC and DCC were both recommending it for businesses. Or at least MoH should've given earlier instruction to prevent governmental cross-promotion of competing exposure tracing apps.

I wish the MoH app had been delivered sooner as a number of competing solutions have popped up in the interim.

Rippl shouldn't need to exist to be honest - the MoH should rightfully be running the solution, not a private business in my opinion. In a sense it's good Rippl does exist, because it filled a gap, but that gap shouldn't have needed to be filled.

Edit: I wonder if the QR codes used by the MoH app and Rippl are compatible (ie encode the same data)?

What a complete mess the business registration is; I cannot believe they let this loose.

It took me 25 minutes to:

  • navigate the various different required sites,
  • find the relevant links buried in what seemed endless FAQ pages, and
  • contend with error messages when trying to set up and download posters.

I got there in the end but suspect many will just give up (which is the last thing we need). Someone in authority needs to urgently streamline and simplify this.

So maybe working alongside Rippl in the interim is not such a bad thing.

What could they do to change and simplify the process for businesses and clubs?

1. Provide a single webpage to register, create and download the poster. And provide the link directly from within the app.

2. Drop the requirement to use Realme and just ask for an authorised name and email address. Realme is total overkill when the output is a simple poster to identify location.

3. The use of NZBN to identify the business should be optional. If no NZBN, then just provide a name for the entity. How many small businesses or clubs will have these, or will be bothered to get one just to acquire a QR poster?

No, as the QR code used by the MoH is managed by MBIE as part of business registry now.

I agree 100% with this post and your earlier one too. It took me about 5 minutes which is a long time to spend signing up for anything.

I have a RealMe login that I use almost daily for various IRD/NZBN stuff, and even with that I was almost at a loss as to what to click and where to go to get our physical office set up, just to download the poster.

If it's this difficult for us (geeks, posting on a forum for geeks), imagine how difficult it will be for 99% of business owners/staff?

This will take the place of the paper diary I have been using to keep track of where I’ve been and means I don’t need to look for announcements of what commercial premises might be the source of an outbreak.

I am wondering whether NFC could be used in addition to QR codes? I’m not sure whether there would be any increased security risk to your device. If there isn’t increased risk, then to me an NFC tag in is far less hassle than activating my phone’s camera, focusing/framing the QR code and taking the image. Additionally, if I can use the NFC in my smartwatch, even better.

Once we get our sub-dermal chips implanted, things will get even easier...... (/joking).

No one in our house has a phone with NFC, so it would have to be in addition to the QR codes.

Yes, not a replacement, an additional method of scanning. Still if businesses are struggling to get and print an appropriate QR code, what chance an NFC tag?

This was exactly my experience, I spent at least the first 10 minutes cycling back and forth through the various sites simply trying to figure out where to click to begin the process?!

(it should be simple, to make it simple, I have no idea how they ended up with this mess).

Set up Authy as MFA, but the app-icon within Authy shows the Australian COVIDSAFE icon

Authy takes the closest-match suggestion if there's no immediate one available, if you want a custom icon you can set it manually.

Cheers, searching "tracer covid nz" for the Authy icon gave me a suitable icon

Yeah I really didn't think so but it was wishful thinking I guess... understand the MoH is encoding the GLN/NZBN of the business, whereas Ripl will be capturing their own data. Bet people find that confusing.

Took me 3 minutes to set the app up on a Galaxy S7.  No idea why others are having such trouble.

But:  today, I visited VTNZ and New World, and no sign at all of a QR code (VTNZ writing it all down, FT not bothering at all).  So I write my visits in Outlook.  Come on, guys.

Is there a way to sideload the tracer app if phone is running older version of Android than 7?

It would appear by some common sleuthing, losing focus potentially triggers a code re-request on android. So swapping out to get email, resets it.

So those on small screens or not using draw-bar preview to get the number from the email body might be the ones facing the issue

Would make sense. I just used the status bar preview half pulled down

So much rage for the tinfoilers and anti government scaremongering the hell out of others on the social medias without even RTFMing or installing and looking at the permissions themselves. You would think google publish apps with 0 permissions in months and ones with all permission requests in 2hrs.

Unfortunately hard to correct them with a screenshot or 2 as they have images turned off.

Seems poor/unfortunate design IMO

Gotta avoid tracking by meme and government propaganda GIFs somehow.

Funny enough, GIFs are enabled. The first one when I went to click it was facepalm meme :D

Search in the App store for NZ covid tracer in any order doesn't show the app. Google still need to index the App I think.

At least I found the web link here, thanks guys.

First experience after sign-up and closing the app without logging out. Won't start again, just getting a 1 second flash that the App has stopped and that is it. Looks like there are still some things to fix. Not surprised about the low score on Google Play.

Hope we get an update fast, this really puts people off.
