Well Victoria is better, but still a long way to go.

You can to a great extent characterize the behavior of this epidemic in each country by the behavior of the people.
Its hard to separate the culture and nature of the host from the characteristics of virus itself.

Sort of :

"While some global vaccines are in the third phase of trials, the Russian vaccine is yet to complete its second phase. Developers plan to complete that phase by August 3, and then conduct the third phase of testing in parallel with the vaccination of the medical workers."

So the headline of "vaccine to be approved by Mid-August" basically mean we are approving an unproven vaccine for use in health workers,

The Moderna Vaccine went into a 30,000 people phase 3 trial on Monday, and they are not expecting to know good results for 6 months....

The big issue with *any* vaccine that appears successful will be long term side effects.... while it might save you from COVID, its not much good if 12 months down the track you end up with some nasty potentially worse complications...

"A man in his 40s arrived in New Zealand with Covid-19 symptoms, after travelling from the Philippines through Hong Kong.

He was one of two new cases of the disease reported by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

The man was taken straight to an Auckland quarantine facility, and a test taken on his arrival on Monday returned a positive result."

Why on earth was he allowed to travel by the airline!!!! Guess there might be a few more cases arising in isolation. His flight number was NZ080. Thanks Air New Zealand.

57% infected of 40% slum dwellers of 20 million population = 4.5 million slum dwellers infected, not to mention the 16% of non slum dwellers.

And the local officials say that they've effectively stemmed the spread??? Smh

16%, never mind 57%, would make the city the most infected place in the world.

Just to put some context around these numbers... the total reported cases for *all* of India is 1.5M (Worldometer). According to these numbers, the total for just Mumbai is 6.5M. The most infected country in the world is Qatar with 39,000 cases/million population (3.9%). So, if the numbers are true, this city is orders of magnitude more infected than anywhere else, yet poor people, who can't afford health care let alone hospitalisation, aren't dying.

It doesn't seem credible to me.

The question is whether he had symptoms before he boarded the plane? IMO this is why people should be required to have one of these quick tests before boarding to at least filter these people out,. Once they arrive in NZ with the virus, it has a big cost in managing that one person that tests positive.

The quick serological tests for antibodies won't work because at that stage of infection, antibodies aren't present at detectable level.
There's an article here on quick(er) PCR tests.

The management and logistics involved. Needs dedicated people in PPE, in a dedicated vehicle to transport them from airport to quarantine, then cleaning afterwardsetc. Then ongoing management of them while in the hotel. Potentially may require hospitalization if their condition worsens etc. Then wouldn't staff at airport who have interacted with them need to self isolate and get tests?
