For someone who has been there every single day since Covid started he should get some respect he been there saying exactly what’s asked of his team should allblacks captain or coach be fired if one of the players in the team dropped the ball on try line and losing the game

But that's precisely how you're coming across.  Screeching for AB to be fired.  Get a grip.

I suggest you get yourself an education about the importance of constitutional propriety and integrity in the civil service. Your last sentence can be equally applied to yourself.

Criticising you for repeated calls to "fire AB" is not refuting that errors may have been made.  If you expect perfection in "everything" and the penalty for any failure is to lose your job, then "screeching Karen" fits.

If you think NZ is at risk of becoming a lawless banana republic - you're dreaming.

In times of adversity people need heroes, they give them a positive focus and hope. Rightly or wrongly Dr Bloomfield and to a degree Jacinda Ardern provided the hero focus. One just has to look at Great Britain 1939 desperately needed a hero and Churchill became that focus way above what he should have been assigned.

Churchill , interesting lesson, the electorate may want something else when emergency is over.
https://www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/andrew-roberts/churchill-after-the-war/

""
"I found it very odd being turned out of power just at the moment when I imagined I would be able to reap where I had sown,” Winston Churchill wrote about his 1945 general-election defeat to his old friend Hugh Tudor in January 1946, “and perhaps bring about some lasting settlement in this troubled world.”
""

I agree that AB and JA are providing a little "hero focus" for the population but as for "the electorate may want something else when emergency is over", I don't see that happening. If the polls are to be believed, most voters were happy with the job JA was doing before Covid-19 arrived - and that doesn't seem to have changed - whereas Churchill became PM specifically to lead the country through WW2 and because Chamberlain's appeasement policy was failing miserable. I suspect that once the war was over, Churchill would have been an unwanted reminder of grim times and I guess most of the voters simply wanted something to look forward to a positive future.

Dismissing people who criticise aspects of the response (which has shown at times a wide divergence between what is supposedly happening and what is actually happening) as 'screeching karens' is no better.

See my comment above.  It's not the criticism per-se.  It's the endless hysterical screeching.

The nation has been officially told off.

And needs to calm the farm.

Article mentions "The New Mutants" was filmed in 2017, never released, which a year ago even Disney has said had "limited box office potential."

So Disney is releasing "Mulan, live action" to video-on-demand, and testing the waters with the dud "The New Mutants."

Variety: AMC Theatres, the largest movie theater chain in the world, charging NZD $0.25, US 15 cents, a ticket on opening day in the US

AMC Theatres has just endured one of the most traumatic periods in its hundred-year history. As the theater chain looks to reopen 100 of its locations on Aug. 20 after shutting them down last spring during the coronavirus pandemic, it has hit on a novel way to bring back audiences while paying tribute to its past. For one day only, tickets at the theaters will sell for 15 cents...

Of course, the movies that people will be able to buy tickets to see won’t be new blockbusters. They will be legacy titles such as “Black Panther” and “The Empire Strikes Back.”

AMC is embarking on a phased reopening of its theaters in the United States, with the goal of having approximately two thirds of its more than 600 locations operational in time for the Sept. 3 release of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet.” That does not include venues in major markets such as New York and Los Angeles, where officials have not approved reopening cinemas due to public health concerns.

The few new movies that are opening in advance of “Tenet,” such as the Russell Crowe thriller “Unhinged” and “The New Mutants,” will carry 2020 prices of roughly NZD $15, depending on the market.

Yea I saw that. Not sure how much those 15 cent tickets will really help bring audiences back. Many people who want to protect their health will just stay away until there's a vaccine. And with films like Mulan going to Disney+ its not like they wont have alternatives.

I am only now catching up on this thread. I know some have already pointed this out but I will repeat:

@Wakrak No more social media crap here.

@meesham That story sounds like urban legend. No more urban legend crap here.

Everyone else: no social media crap here.

All good. I'm a bit late to this thread and the rules here. My reason for posting the image was to confirm whether it was what 'Oblivian' was referring to when stating:

Oblivian:

There is an in-depth 'this is how it happened' on socials. They felt the need to back up the claim with 'this is what Winston was talking about'. But it also pointed to a media coverup. So take it as you will.

As a result, they made this earlier

..Which if you go back even further, will find it was a responce to someone posting a theory that matches it. Naming a MP from a media story that matched a spawned online campaign. I was shooting it dead right there.

And I do not do details. Nor post any of the actual tripe. Because that's just stupid.

Please be cautious before trying to justify

Folks, please note that we have received updated information about the story of an Aucklander going to the South Island and causing volunteer fire service people to self-isolate. The story wasn't complete and not all facts happened as described. I have removed the story and comments on that story.

Please do not share stories where you do not have been a witness or a story that comes from social media - this includes not sharing stories that comes from a "friend of a friend" or Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/LinkedIn/WhatsApp or any other network like that.

Stories can only be shared if the source is reliable and the story is confirmed by multiple reliable sources.

Your aunt's neighbours' daughter's boyfriend who is in Wanaka is not a reliable source.

I think this calling for folks to be fired such as AB seems to think that changing to another leader wouldn’t be hugely destabilising on the whole department.

If it was gross incompetence like what we are seeing overseas sure, but it is certainly not the case in NZ so... seriously people why are you so angry at someone who has performed admirably and delivered for all New Zealander.

QFT.

Asking for Dr Ashley to be replaced is really not supportive. The thing is working - some folks should feel happy we are in a better situation than so many other countries. Sure, thanks to our geographic conditions, spread population, etc - but leadership and hard work is also a factor here.

I reckon the person who made that post on Facebook page should be charged because there’s people who are going to believe no matter what it’s disappointing at a time when we all should be working together
