Dr. Bruce Aylward, the Canadian head of the World Health Organization's COVID-19 mission in China, has just returned from Wuhan.

This is very good and contains lot of information on subjects like asymptomatic cases (not a significant problem), importance on focusing on people with symptoms and close contacts. Some people can shed the virus in the 24hrs before showing symptoms. Children can get the virus, but often appear to get a more mild form of the disease. There don't seem to be a large number of cases where the child passes the virus to adults.

It looks as though the US may have horribly botched it's testing process for COVID-19

This article in the Atlantic seems to back up what others are reporting on the ground.

The CDC's latest update shows that as of March 5, 2020 they've only completed 1,583 tests.
They don't report on state-level testing, but it appears most states can only test a few hundred a day.

Elise Hu, a LA based host on NPR twittered (I know..) this out today.

In Canada, British Columbia - directly across the border from WA State - had already completed several thousand COVID-19 tests, and - along with other provinces - has upgraded to be able to test thousands per day.

Last week I read somewhere that Humpty Trumpy had stripped millions from the Health, Sciences & Environment budgets, including the CDC but I read yesterday he is now demanding Congress release $2.4 Billion to fight this virus and the Democrats have countered requesting it should be $8.5 Billion.

Instead of listening to public health and medical experts he has been downplaying the potential impact of the virus for over a month or thereabouts. Well, from another item I have read in the last month, that is because he fired all the NO people in those departments that he stripped money from and either didn't replaced them or he put Jawohl Mein Führer people in.

Can not remember the article I now read. I just did a google on: trump fires scientists and covid-19 Well the results list is way too long.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

You stretch every thing you read into something completely different?

You can't hide an exponential increase for long. I'm sure the Chinese know that. But very soon we'll either see mass graves and crippling of their workforce and economy. Or we won't. Want to put some money on which will happen?

The fact that the Chinese are reacting to imported cases suggests that they do have internal spread under control. But of course that reaction could be just a bluff... Commies are cunning that way.

The posting has a screen shot of the email from the cdhb and was posted by the person who received it and asking whether the dhb could force this.

Well this morning was calmer than last week, shopping at NW Wigram.

Still observed:

"Non Normal" Shoppers in large numbers.

Far more Asian descent than normal.

Almost every one had toilet paper!

Staff told me that there was almost none in stock by last night, but fully restocked this morning.

Saw one guy with a trolley full of toilet paper, and nothing else!

(I asked him if LooPaperAGeddon had caught him? His answer was that "The wife told him to get it!"

He obviously is not capable of thinking for himself, or is on the edge of divorce!)

Others with an empty basket in one hand and a 12 or 18 Pack of Toilet Paper in the other!

According to staff, lots of bulk buying large bags of flour, rice etc as well.

I got everything I normally buy, without any issues.

Hi, i don't think that vaccine can help here, the virus is spreading and nothing can stop it. My parents are from Bosnia and until yesterday there was not even one case there.

But yesterday they have discovered that man who worked in Italy came back before 15 days to Bosnia and he turned positive with Corona Virus, after that they have tested his family and his kid turned out also positive. Now they have closed the school where the kid was going and will test all students. they still don't know the results but i think it's going to be epidemic. Imagine what will happen.

I am very worried about this, in the beginning i was joking about it, but my wife have asthma and i really hope that this will end fast.

don't worry too much. just know that in another parallel universe, Bosnia is the most dominant country in the world and humans are widespread infecting coronaviruses. in our universe however, stay healthy and safe.

Apropos of nothing, went to the Home and Something show yesterday with Mrs.Neb to check various things for the Casa de Cowboy rebuild. We deliberately went on a weekday to avoid the usual weekend crowds, but in this case not only were there no crowds, there was no-one period. There were perhaps two dozen people at the entire show, when you'd normally expect should-to-shoulder crowds of thousands. Not sure what caused it, but something that extreme had to be pretty radical, and coronavirus panic would be one reason.

Felt really sorry for the poor exhibitors, every stand we walked past wanted to talk to us because there was just no-one there, and they no doubt paid a fortune for the event.

And that bacteria can reproduce (double) every 20 minutes or so. So in an hour that .1% is .8%, 2 hours is 6.4%, 3 hours is 25.6%, 3 hours 40 minutes is back to 100%.

I hate to think someone with OCD might be reading that. The key question is, how effective is it after casual surface contact with a small number of corona virus particles. The answer is, very. And don't touch your own face or insert your fingers into your nostrils...

I had to do shopping yesterday as we were out of some essentials. In Hastings everything appeared fairly normal for a Friday. It was busy, but not crazy. Also normal at the pet shop and the petrol station I frequent. New World was fairly busy and most shopping carts, including my own, were full to the brim. My excuse is I don't do shopping very often. The rest may have just been usual Friday shopping. Only the hand sanitizer shelf was (nearly) empty, but everything else appeared normal. Plenty of toilet paper, even both of my favourite brands. Not a mask in sight. All in all, just another ordinary day in town.
