reading some late night news and saw this news
Two Malaysian returned from New Zealand
Of the new cases, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said five were imported and involved Malaysian returnees from New Zealand (two in Selangor), India (one in Sabah), Pakistan (one in Sabah) and China (one in Sabah).
Guess it will be report in NZ media in the morning, wonder is it transit in Singapore and accidentally caught at the airport or else it's a direct flight caught in the flight from Auckland to KL or even maybe there CT out there that we don't know.

we've seen this before - last month/2 iirc?
hopefully the MOH will telephone the Malaysians and trace back their movements and test everybody ... they did that for the prev 2 travellers to South Korea and Australia didn't they?

remember that girl who went to school? she was asymptomatic iirc ... family took her back from school when her test returned positive
so we don't know what we don't know
the best thing is to trace the movements and test the contacts

Malaysia Airlines one direct flight AKL-KLL ever 2 weeks, last one was the 6th September, ( next is 20th).. but until the 7th September Malaysia required a pre departure negative test... So I'm assuming its a more recent flight that transited somewhere (likely Singapore)
Would be nice if Malaysia could Genomic test them to see if its the Auckland cluster Strain, or another...
As an aside I'm guessing the reason they have asked EVERYONE at the school to be tested is so they can tell politicians on Monday that they are all negative or not to feed into the alert level decision....
Anyway so in this most recent case , many things don't line up in statements from MOH... Privacy we may never know.
Suddenly Botany Cluster appears last week with little explanation.
In regard to this family its reported that:
"The family has been cooperating with Public Health and members have been tested and have stayed in isolation until this event."
So , the child is not just a random test, but specifically there is some reason this family was of interest to Public Health.
So, if you are a specific contact why is the advise not clearly, explicitly, unequivocally to isolate until you get result.
Being non-symptomatic, well you are non-symptomatic until you are, and its still statistically possible you are shedding virus.
Some studies say early in infection that area you first become symptomatic is most infectious ?
Its one more day.
Seems they were not given sensible advise, I can't see anyone not waiting one more day if time is spent to explain clearly ?
Yep your child looks ok, but do you want to be center of a potential outbreak, and all the publicity that follows, having neighbors and friends asking why you did not isolate for one more day.
Anyway I think lesson is unless you want hassle of what has happened, having to hide from community, if result is positive, , you win the golden ticket, just isolate for that extra day.
It will seem foolish afterwards, even if you did not mean to be so.
I think the people in Public Health interfacing with this family need to have a serious discussion on if they did their best in this case.
I don't blame the family.

I thought they were moving cases and household contacts / families (who would be close contacts) into the Jet park, to prevent this sort of hole?

There have been quite a few of these detected cases from people from NZ. Most of the time the DG explained that it was likely that the person was someone who was infected prior to the first lockdown, and just had it still in the system, but not infectious . But I am surprised that if this is the case, why we aren't picking up some of these cases in our testings that is going on? Or maybe the testing is different over there?

Edge conditions the bane of any plan, we may never know precisely due to privacy.
They may wait for test results before Jetpark becomes a question (Its only 24-48 Hours), could be other things that made it an edge case.
I'm sure that it would have all worked out fine, if 'Public Health' ( Whoever they are ) had done a better job explaining. Who wants to have neighbors, community, your kids schoolmates asking you why , why not one more day.
Poor kid if their schoolmates work it out, oh what happened to so-and-so.
What seems mean and unkind, may not be so in hindsight.
kingdragonfly: Washington Post: William Barr has gone too far before, but never this far
US Attorney General William P. Barr’s .. compared pandemic restrictions to slavery. “You know, putting a national lockdown, stay-at-home orders, is like house arrest,” Barr said during a speech Wednesday night at Hillsdale College. “Other than slavery, which was a different kind of restraint, this is the greatest intrusion on civil liberties in American history.”
Barr was discussing limitations on religious services during the pandemic...
Pretty sure the Americans sent to Manzanar and the like might have a different view on this...

The kids in their class will have worked it out already, The child in question ( and likely their siblings) had been away from school since he 30th August....
If no further cases are detected, and the child recovers fine, I don't think there will be much long term blow back,
But, kids can be cruel to each other for the strangest reasons,
IMO it lso hasn't been helped by the lack of education around it They are trusting people to do the right thing, but there is still so much confusion, including among est highly educated intelligent people. For example Universities thought they could hold lectures with 300 people in Auckland. Whereas the director general said that wasn't correct at the standaup, as groups could be no more than 10. IMO 300 in a lecture theatre is not following common sense either, even though it possibly isn't specified anywhere, and maybe one of those 'grey areas' IMO if there are grey areas, then they should be operating on the cautious side. ..
