Was quoted a little over $1500 with AA for the Standard Range+ with a $1000 excess, though that included glass cover and a rental vehicle if the car is being fixed. (would be around $1400 without those).

It took them a few minutes to work out what a Model 3 was, as it wasn't listed on their online quote tool. Initially they said they didn't insure Teslas, I reminded them that they did have both the Model S and Model X listed in their quote tool... A few minutes of 'let me talk to my supervisor' and they came back with the quote.

I was surprised they offered glass cover and queried it, they said that this would cover all glass except the 'sunroof'.

Am going through this at the moment. The panelbeaters wanted to charge me for the courtesy car, so I went back to my insurer (Tower) and they said the courtesy car would be covered under the rental car clause, up to $1000 worth.

I think the panel beaters are charging like $20 a day or something, so in theory I could have it for weeks and weeks.

There are also body shops in Christchurch and Dunedin. But yeah, they're going to need to entice more panel beaters to sign up and become certified in the other cities.

Do you mean build quality or a fault?

Build quality in this thread relates to an inherent lower overall build quality. Mentioned often with Tesla here and elsewhere. Faults does not equal build quality. All cars have had faults or recalls.

To me, a leaking charge port is a quality issue and a fairly big one considering the current going through that area.

Koolaid is fine, I used to drink that with my Apple stuff! :-) If there were issues all over the car, then that's quality. If its generally a once only issue, its a fault. Otherwise you'd have to say that no product that existed or has ever existed is good quality

All I'm saying is that other EV manufacturers aren't faultless, even those that have been making cars for decades. At least in Tesla's case the quality issues are really just paint and panel gaps, not life threatening quality issues like in the Etron.

Tesla is a premium product, like Apple. Paint and panel gaps shows a lack of detail and quality control. The brake issue that showed it has poor braking, that seemingly was not known and this not tested, or quality controlled, and they had to be told is very poor IMHO. Im not saying that to pick on you or Tesla, but think about it

The other issue I have and this applies to all that do this, is that there seems to be a trend towards fly by wire. As with aircraft, more and more is taken away for the driver and managed by 0's and 1's. That's a worry. It has reduced pilots workload and salaries in aviation, but do we want everything in a car being managed by a computer that can fail, or freeze, or have a bug? I want brakes to be my brakes

Panel gaps are last year's issue. I haven't heard any more about it for ages. The Model 3 production quality is now pretty good as far as I can tell. One of the advantages of being at the back of the queue as NZ has been.

If I might be negative about Tesla insurance, I'd be worried if a condition for buying Tesla insurance is letting Tesla snooping on your driving habits whenever they want, without notification.

I wouldn't install house cameras and give my health insurance company unlimited access for a cheaper rate.

Some data privacy question: How will Tesla uses your data?

How frequently is it examined for insurance purposes, and do they need to notify you of an insurance related examiniation?

Will your personally identifiable driving data be shared, or resold?

Could it be used against you in a court case?

AS long as there's a clear seperation of companies, legally enforced, and no sharing of data, I'd be OK with it.

I was talking to the accountant today and asked the question re the $8000 software update for full self driving mode,

which was can I claim it as software and therefore depreciate it more than the car

It looks like the answer is yes...

If you're wanting the Model 3 in black and you've been on the fence now might be the time. Plain white (not the pearl white you currently pay extra for) is going to be replacing the current default black soon, with black costing the same as the midnight silver.

Its this sort of thing that makes Tesla just look silly,

The price of model blah is going up, then its down, then its up again, but if you choose any colour other than black it will cost you more, but now black will cost you more and white is included in the price.

They should just embrace full McDonald-ification and stick "for a limited time only" on everything,

That's me. I've never bought a new car in my life and an I'm now in my 7th decade....just. But once we sell the house we just shifted out of I'll be ordering a Model 3. Hopefully I'll have it before Xmas.

I'll definitely look at it. I'm not a speeder and try to drive as carefully as my human frailty allows me to. I did dumb stuff (speeding, tailgating, passing at the wrong times) when younger and learned from it.....and didn't kill myself accidentally through errors in judgement (good luck, not good driving).

Top Gear has reviewed the Model 3 performance and while there's some controversy in the Tesla communities about the charge level of the Model 3 during the drag race (it was only 54% - if it had a 80-100% charge it would have taken out the more expensive Merc too), it was overall a fairly positive review considering Top Gears past history with Tesla. Chris Harris liked it so much he's now buying his own!

Yeah, but given he has a collection of around 16 cars, adding another is not the same as if you or 1 said "I'm buying a Tesla...."
