EVsEnhanced:

I've already conducted this test and my results were quite different than what your Nissan Tech contact said.  The battery had an actual SoH around 90%.  Starting at 100% with a reset and cycling close to end to end to help the BMS learn quickly, the SoH in the BMS approached the actual SoH like a decaying exponential curve.  It dropped very quickly at the start and was down to 95% within two cycles. Actually on the first cycle nothing happened (stuck on 100%), but in the second discharge cycle it dropped 5% after quite a short drive. But it took many more cycles (over a week of driving) to get to about 92% and another couple of weeks after that to settle back to 90%.

My source mentioned that re-calibration happens only above certain temperature. There are two opinions from two sources abroad: no re-calibration of SOH if temperature is below a) 10C  b) 20C. If later true and it was cold in ChCh during tests - that may influenced tests a bit. Those "many more cycles" in 3 weeks - suppose were only partial and not full 100% charges / discharges to turtle, hence re-calibration could've taken a bit longer.

Overall - 3 weeks is fast enough, so when people are complaining about something like 8% drop in few months - that may just be the degradation of the battery by itself, perhaps as a result of fast chargers and long drives with multiple charges along the way and overheating of the pack as a result.

Hi,

apologies if this has been asked before, but what is the charging current for the Type 2 public slow chargers? Is it 16A?

Thanks

The output varies, look on the side of the machine for AC output. Plain sockets on a wall could be up to 32A but depends on how they are wired.

The warehouse ones I think can go to 22kW but only Zoe's can use that much.

Your car will be the limiting factor. I can charge my uk leaf at 6.6kw or 30A on the warehouse and Christchurch units in CCC carpark.

If
If its just a socket

A bog standard leaf can only use 16A or 3.3kW no matter how much is available from the socket.

Hi thanks for this. Our car is a JDM 30kWh LEAF, first registered Japan December 2016, so I presume 3.3/3.6kw and 16A?

Yes most likely 3.3kW 16A limited.

Having a bigger internal charger is rarer in Japanese and if present the dealer would most likely have told you and tried to charge you more money for it.

On a different note, for those with Japanese imports: Does anybody know what the announcements are while driving? They seem to occur at random times. They are also different from the welcome message on start up.

I think there are a few. One seemed to be a warning that I was going too fast near a school crossing while I was on sh1. 😀

Unless those are usefu to you I suggest you turn them all off. On my 2016 model I turned the voice volume to zero. That turned off all Japanese speech.

Hi everyone, very interested in a Nissan Leaf.

Then went to a car yard website that sells a lot of them and saw some Plug in Hybrid Priuses.

Plug in Prius range is ~25k...... + you have to carry an ICE around as well.....

Whats your attraction to the Leaf, this might help you decide on a BEV or PHEV

To be honest the first reason was increasing maintenance bills for an older vehicle with over 150,000km driven.

Secondary to this was the fuel saving, as long as we could make do with the range being conservatively <100km.

But when I saw PHEV it made me wonder if this would take away the range issue and still offer the benefits. Do PHEV have higher maintenance requirements than Plain Old Petrol Cars?

gzt: Which Leaf exactly?

Does this matter if being compared to a PHEV?

Looking at the trims available I would be prepared to look for a G if the price was right.

When car listings say that the "dash has been converted to English" do they just mean the main information dash in front of the driver? Is the centre console able to be English converted?

No, centre console remains in Japanese. Only the dash information over the steering wheel is converted.
