Cool, so VW have cracked how to smelt steel without coal on a large scale..... :)

I mean really what does " no carbon dioxide excess"  actually mean, I suspect it means they offset emission they cannot eliminate which is admirable, but not novel

Maybe they mean no CO2 in excess of what it would take to make a non-ev car of a similar size?

That would barely qualify as 'carbon-neutral'.  I imagine it is offsetting by some means, which of course is not novel.  But maybe better than not doing so?  I imagine this is mainly to counter claims that EV production has a larger carbon footprint than ICE car production. (Or maybe they have developed a new carbon battery technology? 😁)

Hi,

Re: Type 2 EV Charging cables.

Apart from questionable quality goods on AliExpress and offerings of the same goods by local re-sellers and apart from offers @ exorbitant prices on nz.element14.com does anyone come across high quality Type 2 cables and Plugs at reasonable prices?

I am looking to source High quality Type 2 to Type 2 cable, or just pair of high quality Type 2 mating plugs. Reluctant to pay $500 for the cable and not going to pay $200 for "made in PRC" stuff. Pictured is $500 cable.

Also need quality Type 2 Plug which connects to the car.

I got a 32amp T2 to T2 5 metre cable from ecogeek.co.nz. It looks pretty good to me. :-)

This one.

The Tesla Model 3 comes with its own wall charger, but I also want to be able to use it with my 32amp ROLEC Wallpod and also at 11kw with the various 3-phase AC Type 2 EV charging facilities around the country (The Warehouse, Orion, most ABB-made fast chargers).

I would not have thought the car would release any excess of any kind during the manufacturing process.

The factory might...

VW revealed themselves as serial liars during diesel gate. I'd take any VW claim with a very large pinch of salt.

I do not need 32A, 3 Phase. I am after 1 Phase. 16A would be OK. 32A excess to requirements.

@Ruki
But $340 is a decent chunk less than $500 and you wanted a ‘quality’ provider so a Tesla one should fit both of YOUR criteria anyway?

I think all you will find is 32A as the supplier has to allow for the fact that you could plug it into a 32A supply even if you don't intend to.

I got a type 2 to type 1 off a seller called jpk on trademe and am very happy with it. There are several listed there from other sellers starting around $240

Isn't 16A one phase otherwise known as a caravan plug...

A 32A can connect at lesser amps without issue but not the reverse.

As 32A sockets at destinations continue to expand you might regret limiting yourself to 16A in future.

Regarding cable costs.
You get what you pay for and quibling over a couple of hundred extra dollars to connect a car worth tens of thousands of dollars seems to be temping fate somewhat.

We aren't talking about hdmi cables to your tv

No. @RUKI is after a Type 2 charging cable that is normally used between a vehicle and a fixed EVSE. The number of conductors varies with the number of phases, and current rating will vary with conductor area.

I was being slightly tongue in cheek with reference to 16A being a caravan plug cable but I was trying to infer that 16A is old and outdated.

Why limit yourself to 16A for sake of few dollars if your car can take 32A

Tesla's 'jaw dropper' profit surprises people expecting a loss in the third quarter

Tesla posted a surprising profit of US$143 million (NZ$222 million) in its latest quarter, raising hopes the electric car pioneer may finally be turning the corner after posting mostly losses during its first decade as a publicly held company.
