If anything the feebate scheme will slow EV update in 2020, people are already waiting for the discounts.

It will and thats happened elsewhere. Its a small price to pay though, a few extra months of emissions. If they came in tomorrow then some  people will have bought an ICE but would have bought an EV if they knew. There will always be that gap but its a one off gap that is in any case still filled

ID3 isnt going to be shipped in Europe until at least mid year possibly later, no way will we see one of those here in 2020.

We'll see some MG Evs, 50-100 model 3's a month, Kona and ioniq with a few eNiro.

If its production numbers, I doubt that's fixable for a long while. We import about 160,000 vehicles a year, I'm not sure how long it will be before we could import 160,000 EV's annually

tripper1000: The Govt, including the Greens do not have coherent strategies on energy. The price of electricity in N.Z. doesn't not truthfully reflect reality. Wholesale Electricity is very cheap off peak and very expensive on peak. Retail-wise, off-peak users heavily subsidise on-peak, suppressing on-peak prices, ripping off off-peak users, discouraging voluntary load shifting (from on peak to off peak) and stifling the commercial solar market. The system is geared to favour the electricity producers and take choices away from both the consumer and environmentalists. 

 

 Living on the spot price is great, until there is a dry year/gas shutdown etc, and it all goes nuts.....

 

Plenty of people got badly burnt in 2018, and most wont have squirrelled the savings away for a rainy ( dry) day/month...

 

It happened in '92, 2008, 2018, and will happen in the future as long as we only have 6 weeks of hydro storage...

Not having a go at you or anything, but your comments are a great example of how kiwi's don't realise how poor the energy strategies are: I'm not talking exclusively about spot generation pricing - the distribution grid requires upgrades to cope with steadily increasing peak demand. The cost of this is being meet by levies on every kw, both on peak and off peak. So off-peak users are subsiding on-peak by paying for upgrades that could potentially be avoided altogether. This artificially suppresses day-time retail pricing, taking the gloss out of solar returns and is a self-licking ice-cream, making the situation worse by encouraging on peak usage. It hurts the consumer further by taking competition out of the market through empowering the gen-tailers who then hydraulic wholesale prices to squeeze out anyone without generation assets. It also means that because there are no/low off-peak economic incentives, people are unintentionally contributing of higher-overall prices by not considering which loads they can shift to nighttime - such as hot water & dishwashers.

So ultimately prudent users, EV drivers who can recharge off-peak and the environment are loosing out.

After exhaustive (15 mins) research I've compiled a list of all electric cars that you can take delivery of in 2020!

I have put a deposit down on a Taycan. I won’t be getting it in 2020 - 2021 sometime and no production slot as yet.

The transmission costs to Tiwai aluminium smelter are disproportionate to their network usage, heavily subsidises N.Z.'s electricity transmission costs so if they get their way and pay fair transmission costs, or exit NZ altogether, there is going to be retail price rises, and the bad deal off-peak users presently suffer, will get worse.

Afik there is only so far one site planned, Audi/vector are rolling out some 150kw ones

The 50kw network is great but I wouldnt want to be road tripping with one of the thirsty luxury EVs on that.

For now, yeah, the Bombay hills site. Plenty can happen in a year or two tho :)

yep just takes a little more planning anyhow, taycan should do 300km+ in NZ on a full charge, and be quick charging on 50kw as it goes (decent voltage etc) so a lunch stop should see you ready to go again
