The new TV show "Long Way Up" on Apple TV+ stars Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman.

In the program they are traveling from the bottom of South America and all the way up to LA with two electric Harley Davidsons and a couple of Rivian SUVs.

It's really interesting to see them manage a trip like that with what I think is the two first Harley Davidson electric motorcycles and the two first Rivians built.

3 Takeaways from Tesla's Battery Day - Hint: it's not just batteries

Undecided with Matt Ferrell

"Takeaways from Tesla's Battery Day - Hint: it's not batteries.

Tesla opened a fire hose of engineering, manufacturing, and battery advancements in their Battery Day event.

Not to mention the new Plaid Model S and a future $25,000 electric vehicle.

But I think we can break the jam-packed event down into three big takeaways. And it's really not about batteries."

Tesla has been added to the New Zealand Government Procurement program!

Maybe someone was reading my suggestions in this thread that the Model S/X would be an alternative to the BMW 7 series they currently get 😉

Possibly :-)  The Govt has been particularly poor on this, maybe the election might cause a kick start

Is this Kona recall for battery fires new?

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/429107/hyundai-nz-recalls-kona-electric-car-due-to-battery-fire-risk

The New Zealand recall is new yes.

Internationally that there was going to be a global recall has been known for a few days.

A review of the Audi E-Tron Sportback from Carfection.Although mechanically the same as a standard E-Tron, this video does cover some of the other points around an EV. Some of the points raised are possibly more relevant to the UK, some aren't

A interesting story..

https://www.autocar.co.nz/autocar-news-app/nissan-leaf-dispute-highlights-the-danger-in-buying-old-evs

The remaining range estimate on the leaf is well known for being volatile and optimistic. Is nicknamed the guess o meter...

When we had the i3, its estimated range remaining was fairly realistic.

This also applies to remaining range estimates on petrol & diesel vehicles - some are good, and some are optimistic - of course there is lesser need for them to be accurate as it is relatively easy to keep the bottom 1/4 - 1/8th of the tank as reserve (often worth more than the entire range of a leaf).

Before I read the article I thought it was going to be about a reset leaf - It's possible for a seller of a car with a tired battery pack to reset the car to 12 bars, and the car will take a week or so to work out that the battery is actually tired and to drop bars off.

A prime example of why the only reliable measure of an EVs remaining battery capacity is to use a device that interogates the vehicle and provides a State of Health (SOH) of the battery.

The dashboard displayed range in a Leaf is an estimation of the distance the vehicle will travel based on state of charge and the rate of drawdown over the past few kilometres travelled. For example if the Leaf has travelled downhill prior to the reading being taken (or prior to being charged) then the stated battery range will be calculated on the remaining charge being used to travel a downhill journey. In other words the forecast range can well be wildly optimistic, and a dodgy seller can use this to their advantage as in the reported case.

Also suggest importqnce of a bit of research before buying anything and advantage of ev specialist dealer who will quote SOH from something like leaf spy. Asking on regional ev users pages on Facebook will give advice on good dealers to use and highlight dodgy practices to look out for.

To those buying an EV second hand, I advocate getting some sort of soh guarantee to cover against resetting soh data in a dodgy manner similar to winding back an odometer. If the dealer has confidence the soh is true they should worry about this. EV dealers will also give information on number of quick charges vrs slow charges etc.

Skoda Citigo/Seat Mii/VW eUP

Cheapest Electric Cars On Sale, Bad & Cheap Or Good Value?

Electric Vehicle Man

This review is of the Skoda Citigo iV (Electric) but as the VW eUP & the Seat Mii are pretty much the same car then you might as well treat this as a 3 in 1 review!
