Nissan did what it took to be a major early player in the EV space (including cutting corners incl active battery cooling to keep prices down). This hasn't got them much loyalty from their owners, with many of them loving driving electric, but keen to switch to another brand when they upgrade. Not something toyota will want to replicate.
Indeed, that corner cutting is a double-edged sword. It meant a Leaf was within my price range when it was time to buy one in the first place. It also means that the car is far outlasting the battery with the mileage I'm putting on it, and they have not come to the party with any options to ameliorate that. So yeah ... later in the year, when I plan to get around to replacing it, it's probably not going to be with another Leaf.
