I wasnt happy with my Toyota Camry. I didn't get a story in the NZ Herald.
it depends on what the problem is.
I had Tesla for over a year now and I can tell you their Service model is not "fantastic" yet, but saying that if something stops working that reduces your ability to use the car, it is treated with high priority and they do act immediately and they are very friendly (not too many staff, so you will know them very fast).
At the same time, service scheduling and availability is getting better every quarter. They have recently launched mobile servicing for CHCH and changed the way we engage new service requests to Mobile App.
Roadside assist is available free within 80km area to assist you for flat tyre as well (there is no spare tyre in the car) etc.
Mobile app allows you to schedule, talk to agents directly by text and make appointment for fixing things.
I do have to confess there are certain "known" issues that they keep delaying to fix. Like the Yellow border around the center console screens, 100's of cars are effected and they are trailing out a replacement solution in Australia now and by the time it comes to NZ it might be few more months. It's not really noticeable when you are driving unless you are hit with direct sunlight on the screen in an angle. Again, it's not something I need urgently fixed for me but for some others it might be!!
I have a front wheel noise for a couple of months now and it only occurs when I push the car to FULL throttle from 0 to 100 (occurs at 60 speed for half second) for which they have diagnosed and ordered parts for. The noise only occurs if you push it really hard and you have to listen carefully. They have ordered parts and waiting on them for 2 months now. Again, it's not a deal breaker for me as I can still drive it around. But for some others it might be a huge issue as they believe they paid a lot for it and expect a turnaround like a seasoned traditional dealer.
Strongly believe, overtime it will keep getting better and it has been getting better here in NZ until this surge of Model 3 deliveries got them very busy :)
My daughter’s VW Golf had a faulty reversing light bulb connector/holder which took six weeks to come in from Singapore. I had to get a replacement floor mat for my Porsche which took at least three months to arrive from Germany. A floor mat!
Parts availability issues are across many manufacturers.

Batman: Yes but I'm just interested in what the model X issue is if anyone have herald access
So as not to upset our BDFL, here is a précis,
Issues with the Gull wings, currently one of them wont automatically close, + intermittent faults with the reversing camera and the radio, ( and she had a problem with the car turning on and off all night in the garage, - apparently it was solved with new key fobs )
Last week I charged my Model 3 to 100% and drove it from Opotiki to the Tesla store on K Rd in Auckland (340km) and arrived on 27%. That implies a real-world, highway driving range of 465km.
The next day, I drove from Auckland to Tauranga, then back to Auckland to drop someone off, then back to Opotiki. That's about 770km. Almost entirely highway. I charged a few (3, I think) times, as required, roughly every 300km between 20% and 80%....and arrived home with heaps left over.
Today, I drove from Opotiki to Taupo (via Rotorua). I left Opotiki on 100% and arrived in Taupo on 53%. I supercharged at Taupo to 80% and then drove back to Opotiki (via Murupara and Taneatua) and arrived home on 28%.
What's become really clear is I can totally rely on a very comfortable 400km on the highway from a full charge....and have at least 10% left. That may not sound like much, but 10% for the Model 3 is 7.5kWh and that's over 30% in a Nissan LEAF. About 50km.
My wife said to me today the Model 3 is a "game changer". The range is big enough you're just driving a great car. The Superchargers, in particular, mean charging at 112kw (and more)...and adding about 30% (25kWh) in about 15 minutes. We didn't have time to go anywhere other than a quick trip to the loo.
I've been using the Autopilot. It's really good on the highway. Too easy.

For the past almost-3 years I've had a personal project, of sorts, that sees me take 360 VR images of DC fast chargers and posting them in a couple of EV-related Facbook groups ("NZ EV Owners" and "NZ EV 360 VR"). Facebook own Oculus, so they support the display of VR images fairly well.
The idea is that many EV chargers aren't immediately obvious when you arrive in an unfamiliar location and these images let you see the entire physical context of the charger you're interested in so you can more easily locate it and navigate to it on arrival. The idea came to me when I want to the Unison 50kw DC charger in Rotorua (at 1134 Haupapa St) for the first time. It's in a Council car park and not obvious from the road, which is divided by a boulevard down the middle.
Anyway.....over the last 2 years I've posted VR images (searchable, with tags) of about 80% of the DC fast chargers in NZ, including the majority on the South Island, too, but my Nissan LEAF's charging limitations and range meant that the most direct route to the ones further away from me wasn't consistent with what my LEAF could easily do. The battery heating issue in the LEAF (any LEAF) meant my effective range in a day was about 650km. That's usually heaps, but for a "360 VR safari" it was limiting.
But I have a Tesla Model 3 now.....with 4-5 times the range of my LEAF....and it was time to catch up with some of the missing chargers in south Taranaki and through the Ruapehu district....and the Tesla Supercharger in Palmy that I'd initially ignored because there were so few Teslas in NZ. There are now over 1,000.....and I own one....so the relevance of the superchargers is rapidly growing.
So on Wednesday this week I did a road trip from Opotiki, around the missing chargers in the target area, and then back to Opotiki. Here is a screen grab from my timeline from 6am to midnight. At the last minute, I'd also decided to get revised images of chargers I was passing but had already captured in 360 VR. This added about 10 minutes per extra stop. They added up. It was a long day. :-)
For anyone interested, the last new site (to me) was Opunake, south of Mt Taranaki on the coast. I charged the Model 3 to 90% there and drove the 232km to and along SH3 to Te Kuiti. Te Kuiti was a convenient place to make a decision about which route to follow from there. At Te Kuiti, I charged to 80% and drove the remaining 273km to Opotiki and arrived on about 17% about 3:30am. Long day. Red Bull for the win! It just under 1100km for the day...and the Model 3 didn't break a sweat. I didn't need to charge to 90% at Opunake. 70% would have been heaps and saved me 15 minutes. Next time. Opunake to Opotiki really only needed a single 20 minute charge at Te Kuiti to seal the deal. Compared to the LEAF, that's freedom sauce.
The before midnight portion....

How right-foot happy are you? Do you actively conserve range in your driving style or do you have some fun when appropriate?
