Thanks exador. I can very much relate to Cat Stevens song right now!

I have my insurance through Vero (Insure My Tesla), it's a silly question to ask but how would one go about going through claiming for this through insurance?

You'd want to get a quote first from panel beater to decide if worth it or not (you'll pay excess and lose your no-claims bonus).

Then Vero Online Claims

Just looking at your scratches in the photo (my sympathy by the way), did you scrape something painted white by any chance (fence post or something)?

Its not going to fix it completely, but often, you end up getting some (usually) acrylic white paint rubbed on to the car which is 70% of the visible damage.

I have found on more than one occasion you can often use a bit of methylated spirits on a cloth can remove most of the white paint to make it look a lot less bad.

Try with a cotton bud/q-tip on a small spot first.

Thanks Exador, In the past when I collected few road chips I did get a Quote from local panelbeater and the cost was around $800. My Vero access is $500 and dont think they do no claims bonus. Considering repainting the bumper will cost atleast more than $500 it might not be a bad option. Does insurance cover accidental damage? What would this fall under or how does one go about claiming something like this?

Robjg63, this was at a relative's house so cant fully recall but i dont remember there being a white fence. Having closely inspected i believe the white part is the actual car body material that was scraped of?

Contact your insurance company for advice and policy details. They're usually pretty helpful in such circumstances.

We're with AMI and discovered recently that our policy allows 2 'own fault' claims per year before we lose the no claims bonus. Don't ask why I found that out 😦

It looks like white scrapes - but it could be the scratching of the clear cote lacquer.

In any event - most people have some meths at home and it shouldnt hurt the cars paint.

Spoke to the insurance company and they do indeed have no claims bonus. If you have one claim within the insurance period then it takes an year to reset back to no claims bonus.

Something to consider or atleast it makes me feel somewhat okay that there is an option to fix it!

Thank you guys for your replies.

Maybe the Model Y refresh is coming earlier than end of 2024?

Are you referring to the BYD blade battery that they have started using at the Berlin factory, or the Tesla structural battery pack?

The BYD blade battery for the RWD model would be a nice upgrade. Teslabjorn testet it and it charges better than the old LFP pack.

I doubt we will see the structural battery pack from the Shanghai factory any time soon, they are still struggling to create the new 4680 cells for it at the Texas factory.

I'm not sure but the new Model 3 highland model did not have any battery changes.

Rumours say the Y is likely to get new battery tech.

Tesla just sent me an email spruiking the MYLR. Driveaway price is $80K (white with standard wheels and interior). Is that a price drop? Haven’t paid particular attention to the MY price for a while. Std range is $70K.

I am wondering if it is runout pricing before they announce the Juniper update?

My understanding is the long range doesn't use LFP batteries so best to avoid at all costs.

Of course I could be wrong so happy to be corrected.

It uses the same battery chemistry as my performance - NCA.
That being said the price has dropped for MYP and long range seems to have fallen into line with that.
