"Tesla created secret team to suppress thousands of driving range complaints" (Reuters Special Report, 27 July 2023)

https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-batteries-range/

Not clear if this applies to current Tesla's but does fit with comparisons I have seen showing Tesla 'real world' mileages typically less than there EPA range

eg.

hhttps://insideevs.com/reviews/443791/ev-range-test-results/  Tesla's  10% - 12.7% below EPA.  Not that Tesla were worst though.

ttps://www.edmunds.com/car-news/electric-car-range-and-consumption-epa-vs-edmunds.html  More variable but still all Tesla's below EPA.  And in this case the only others below EPA are 2x Lucid and 1x Toyota.

As opposed to either Rivian model?

Yes, I noticed that too 😉.  But I image there will be far more F-150's than Rivian's sold

The bigger the vehicle, the bigger the battery and the lower the  energy efficiency, or you could adopt this approach:

Seeing as the eScooter fire maybe\could have been posted here, this post fits here too.

Another Car ship (Fremantle Highway) is on fire, this time in the North sea. Said to have 498 EV's on board. Tragically, 1 crew has died as a result of the fire.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cargo-ship-fire-netherlands-ev-electric-vehicle-battery-north-sea-freemantle-highway/

Maybe the fire is now less severe.

The problem is media tend to bend stories about EV's quite a bit. The cause of the blaze is still unknown and depending on which site you read you'll see different information.

"Ship charter company "K" Line said on Friday that there were 3,783 vehicles on board the ship - including 498 battery electric vehicles, significantly more than the 25 initially reported."

There are also 3285 alternative sources of ignition outside of the 498 people are focusing on but lets not let responsible reporting get in the way of a good story.

DW have a Q&A which does answer the common questions: https://www.dw.com/en/qa-fire-on-board-the-fremantle-highway/a-66385434

"The Fremantle Highway caught fire off the Dutch island of Ameland on July 26. The car carrier had set out from Bremerhaven, Germany, to sail to Singapore. The cause of the fire has not been definitively established, but it is possible that the battery in one of the electric cars on board ignited."

Everything is still speculation. EV fires rarely happen and as an EV owner myself I hate EV misinformation as a whole. With so many other potential ignition source on the ship I still find it hard to believe an EV was the cause. Media were running with it when the total EV's on the ship was just said to be 25 but just because one person said it doesn't mean it is at all true.

Comparing it to the previous generation Mitsubishi_i-MiEV, 2009–2014

The battery size is disappointing, at 20KWH, from 16KWH previously

And the engine size at 47KW is unchanged, due to the Japanese requirements around Kei cars.

The weight's 1080 KM which is also unchanged. (Also a regulation???)

So it's not going to be peppy.

On the plus side, it does have the latest safety features, including the Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM) that alerts the driver and applies the brakes to assist in avoiding collisions or mitigating collision damage whenever it detects vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists ahead and determines a risk of collision, as well as Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) that alert the driver if the vehicle is about to drift from its lane and support in returning the vehicle by applying the brakes in a short period of time, and Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication (EAPM) that alerts the driver and applies the brakes to assist in avoiding collisions or mitigating collision damage whenever it detects obstacles ahead such as vehicles, pedestrians and walls, and the driver applies the wrong pedal.

It got the highest safety ranking possible, 5 stars.

I used to have the previous generation Mitsubishi kei car, and it was a joy to park, and with the rear seats down, plenty of space for luggage / groceries.

An obese 6' tall man should have no problems driving.

Great...

Thieves targeting electric vehicle charging cables overseas

According to Schneiderman, the replacement cost of the cable was US$2,700, or roughly $4,400.

Apparently his cable wasn't made of the traditional 'copper' but rather solid platinum.

He bought a new "charger" for $2,700. Whether it was an actual DC charger or an AC EVSE who knows, but it seems it was more than just a cable replacement. https://www.insideedition.com/crafty-car-thief-targets-electric-vehicle-to-sell-copper-from-charging-cable-82760

Even less power and KW/HP than the Mitsubishi kei car.

The Fiat has a laundry list of dangers, such as a solid metal dash board, and a dangerous steering wheel. It would be a little safer than a motorcycle.

My guess is it'll also cost more than the Mitsubishi ek X, and will be missing a lot of features like air conditioning, lane keep assist, automatic parking system, cameras and park assist.

But it is cute.
