Thanks, good to read you think it will do what it says on the packet; personally, I’m not a big fan of air directly on my face, so it could actually work fine needing to set air flow in a V to bypass the HUD.

I think I’ll give it a go; if it doesn’t work out, I can try it on the dash or swap it out for the original one I’ve bought.

I know it may sound frivolous, but when you’ve spent well over $70K on a car, then a few hundred dollars here and there to tweak your driving experience is inconsequential.

I wouldn’t consider myself a ‘Petrol Head’ (or whatever the EV equivalent is) but I do enjoy driving my Model 3. I’m sure you will find the same when your Y arrives. You may even find you don’t need a display in front of you and that is the beauty of a lot of the aftermarket stuff. It is completely reversible.

So yesterday I just got sent Software 2022.20.7 - I suspect this is to fix an issue that is affecting NZ cars not waking up from the app.

Basically, in-case you didn't know waking the car from sleep via the app is actually done via a SMS from Tesla to the cars mobile number. The 4G module then sends a wake up request to the cars computers but there was a firmware bug preventing this from happening. Based on early testing it appears that 2022.20.7 resolves this issue (but this is still early).

There is also another issue that may be related with 4G connectivity dropping out causing music etc to stop playing. I have noticed better music streaming since 2022.20.7 got rolled out to my car.

Actually very impressed with Tesla service as they were quick to identify a software issue and a few moments later got an update sent to the car (they didn't know if this would fix it, but they're working on these issues).

I note that the latest update has also changed to orientation of the picture of the vehicle when a seatbelt isn't on.

It used to be that if you were in "gear", and a belt wasn't on, an birds eye view would appear on the bottom right of the screen of the car showing which seat wasn't fastened. It was orientated upwards, which made sense. The image is now shown with the car facing the left - and while it still conveys the information, it's nowhere near as intuitive.

With 2022.20.7 (and .6 as well) has anyone noticed that the surrounding traffic on the display seem to be more ‘vivid’? To me they look a darker grey and their position more defined. Even more noticeable when moving at parking speeds. I first picked it up when driving into our garage, our other car car was clearly defined. All of this might just be me not paying attention previously, but I’m wondering if they are sharpening the “Teslavision” algorithms.

I think so too. And the car in front being tracked by AP is black instead of grey.

When they changed the graphics a few updates back I felt when the UI was set to dark mode that the distinguishment between cars that my car could see and cars that it could see and was actively tracking was very hard to notice as the shade of grey was very similar. I only got 20.7 the other day so I'll have to have a closer look and see if they have improved that.

To me, in dark mode the shading looks the same. The differentiation between a nearby car and one that the car is tracking is still very similar and not as obvious as it used to be.

NFC tags for Tesla commands

Just checking if any M3 owners have tried using NFC tags as a quicker way of unlocking the charging cable or other similar tasks (I also like the idea of putting one under the tow cover on the front bumper for opening the frunk).

Unless I’m missing an easier way, I’m finding it frustrating to have to open my phone simply to be able to disconnect the charging cable before departing in the morning, so thought this could be a relatively easy fix.

While one-off actions would be useful (eg, one on the charger to open the charging cover; another on the inside of the car’s charging cover to unlock the cable), I’m also hoping to do is combine a bunch of commands much like a GA routine on a single tag, eg a tag placed near the back door that would unlock car, unlock cable, turn on heater etc. Do you think this is feasible, and would I need to look out for particular spec’d tags (eg, ensure the tags had adequate memory)?

I have a Tesla Gen 3 wall charger so simply holding down on the button will allow me to disconnect the charger. The UMC will also allow you to do this.

With Tessie, you can set up automations. I personally have some shortcuts on my Apple Watch or widgets to do common actions but you could use NFC stickers too (I have not tried this).

Also, for a free month of Tessie you can use my referral: https://tessie.app.link/ZGCnIpLAgrb

Doh! I had looked by not well enough clearly, as I didn’t spot any button on the UMC, and I didn’t RTFM (assuming the manual was there in the first place). What a dork… Thanks for pointing out the obvious to the oblivious.

Thanks, I did use your code last night to set up Tessie, and created a GH routine along the lines of what I outlined above - for some reason the cable unlock didn’t work, but not such an issue now I know there’s a button to press!

I’m not wanting to become too dependent on the automations possible via Tessie as I’m reluctant to sign up for another monthly sub cost; I’d rather put that money into premium connectivity, which will benefit all in the car.

As such I’m still looking for alternative ways of controlling/automating, ideally via GH and GA - one app that looked ideal (Bestla) proved to be no longer supported so doesn’t work any more - but the NFC is another I’m going to try; just wanted to be sure I ordered suitable tags.

Even though I have the Tesla UMC as my at home charger, I have been using the Watt Time app on my Galaxy Watch 4 to open/unlock/close my charge port to see if I will get a non-Tesla EVSE wall connector installed (leaning towards EVNex at the moment).

There is a small delay while the watch talks to the phone which talks to the car, I don’t imagine that is any longer than tag driven automations.

From my perspective the only things going for the Tesla wall connector at the moment is price and the port toggle button. It’s really just a hardwired UMC (in its operation) as it’s a ‘dumb’ connector.

Not so sure about that. For instance there is no documentation to be found anywhere about DC leakage protection on the UMC. That is documented for the wall charger.

In addition the wall charger is able to be set to the exact Amps you want to draw, which is not possible on the UMC. AND it can support up to 11kW of charging. The UMC maxes out at 3.5kW.

Amended my Wall Connector UMC comment to clarify. Tesla could make it ‘smart’ but haven’t.

Remember though, Tessie isn't just about automation. It collects stats that are incredibly handy and does many other things. The reason for a subscription model (noting you can do a one-off subscription too) is due to the amount of data they have to store and further app development.

IMHO the subscription is worth it for pretty stats and a well-rounded app with good security practices. Seeing there is a huge amount of data that can be pulled from the Tesla API it is important to know what you're connecting to your Tesla account so just be careful about what you connect.

If you do want to reset your API keys then a password reset on your Tesla account will disconnect everything from it.
