It's not a 40 charger, it's a 40amp power supply which the car uses to power it's internal charger. If the car charger can't take more than 20A it's overkill but might be useful for next car.
(one of reasons I bought my UK leaf which can draw 6.6kw close to 32A - but not actually used it as drawing 16A via caravan plug is good enough for me)
There are I think home rapid chargers using 25kw or smaller into the CHAdeMO port but that's another issue..
Whether charging just from wall socket (10a) is effective way to charge you leaf comes down to home much you drive the car each day vrs how long it takes to charge it. For the first 8 weeks I had my leaf I charged it from a normal wall socket in garage. Ie home by 6pm and just left it slow charging over night and always full in morning but my km are low)
If you already have the juice 40 then you know you are charging at Max for your current car.
9 Sep - EV expo. We truly believe that people should enjoy the expo and not queue for those Japanese To English conversions as offered by someone else. For that reason we are committed to convert everyone before 9 Sep. PM me.

paulchinnz: Cockram Nissan said same thing, albeit trying to get manufacturer to drop the price to compete with dropping 2nd hand prices. No specifics otherwise.
How much would you pay for a 2018 40kWh Leaf?
I paid $45K for my current LEAF. It was basically brand new and 30kWh. Nothing else like it in the price range at the time. Not even close.
I'm planning on spending $70K for the range+ version of the Tesla Model 3.....which will be able to 550km.
A 40kWh LEAF will do about half that.
The deal breaker would be whether or not the new LEAF has thermal management of the battery. I have driven my LEAF from Auckland to Wellington in 12 hours...and it requires up 6 fast charges (mostly small, quick ones)...and the ambient temperature was mostly between 3C and 12C on the day. So a quick 8-12 minute zap doesn't raise the battery temperature much and the cold air means it cools down quick before you zap it again in an hour or so. You can barely plug the car in and go for toilet stop in 10 minutes...and the chargers down SH1 are mostly within 50m of the highway. Very easy and fast.
But by the time I got to Wellington the battery was in the high 40s and had very briefly touched 51.3C. The limit is 66C, but the car won't let you go higher than 55C even if you wanted to. So no range anxiety - there are now lots of chargers for the trip - but I was feeling some heat anxiety. Would I have to just stop some where for half an hour or more to just cool down? In this case I didn't. But the same trip in the summer might be another thing altogether.
My next car is going to have a battery that has its temperature managed actively. The battery will last longer and you can drive the car in shifts for days if you need to......just like a petrol car.
Tesla's have thermal management. The battery is cooled or heated as required.
If the new LEAF doesn't have it, I'll be less interested.

PhantomNVD:
AFAIK only businesses have true ‘fast charging’ capabilities at present as the 20k-50k install cost (and the back haul feed) are beyond the feasible reach of a home user.

Agree active battery temp management a biggie. No point having battery pack with lots of kWh but problems with the battery temps.
550km range for Tesla 3 seems optimistic - I thought even long range model is only 500km? (sorry nitpicking over 10% difference!)
Leaf 40 kWh should do 240km on open road, and that for me would mean I could genuinely do with just 1 car. I'm hesitant about Tesla until more local support infrastructure (don't want to have no car for weeks while repaired in Auckland), but otherwise if similar price to Leaf 2018, the T3 is pretty compelling.
JeezyKreezy: Are there ever any issues with getting a blue commando plug put in?

Any reference to where did you see "limit 66C" in Leaf please.
My Tesla PowerWall has max operational temp 50C and I was a bit nervous when it was around that in the middle of the night in summer with the cooling fan going at full speed.

JeezyKreezy: So here's something I'm still trying to wrap my head around. Using a cable is just using the internal charger in the car but if you use a wall charger are you using that instead?
So as I've said my family have installed a juice box pro 40, which is meant to be a 40 amp charger. Can the leaf benefit properly from that it would just end up down charging to its internal 3.3kw charger?
Also is anyone just getting by on trickle charger and public charging stations or is a home installed charger a must?

JeezyKreezy: Cheers Linux luver. I'm loving the amount of effort you've been putting into all your posts, I can really feel your passion for the EVs and it is great that you're able to answer such a variety of questions.
I learn the stuff out of self defense from people who already know and are willing to share what they know. What I don't know can hurt me.

Would anyone have a favourite Android app for trip logging?
I suppose ideally it would be EV aware.
Google maps integration would be nice.
Heads up folks,
Come to EXPO on 9 Sep, be accompanied with Kokakos, Kareareas and Whios and I could make Japanese to English conversion for your Nissan Leaf Cluster on the spot for very special price.
Show me screenshot with this promo code "HYBRIDS.CO.NZ"
and get Karearea off whatever price is offered by the competition at the Expo.
