I am thinking of some part time Uber driving, so phoned my insurance company about commercial insurance for my vehicle and was a bit shocked that the premiums would be nearly 3 times more than my private premiums.

Does anyone know of reasonable insurance cover for Uber/taxi/commercial cover, I have contacted a broker, but have not had a reply yet.

I'm in Tauranga,

Thanks

Probably find its because youre actively going to be driving it all the time and at more risk of an incident.

IME, brokers are more expensive than going direct to the insurer.

@garbonzai:I am thinking of some part time Uber driving, ...

garbonzai:... Some info here=> https://www.rideshareconsultants.co.nz/page/insurance/ ...

I am an Zoomy / Ola / Uber driver. At the bottom of the the rideshareconsultants.co.nz page that you link, there are contact details for Mark Kreling @ Rodney District Insurance - 022 363 2377 - www.rdi.nz  State Insurance are another one that do Uber / rideshare commercial insurance. You really want to mention rideshare / taxi when asking for quotes. Apparently even commercial insurance is different to rideshare / taxi insurance.

I previously had insurance with AA & they seemed fine with 10hrs of driving a week. My 20+ was not acceptable.

  • There is a Facebook group called 'Uber & Zoomy Drivers (New Zealand)'. Generally not much help.
  • FYI, Uber sent out an event notification for a Tax session with Woohoo on Wed, 23rd Jan in Auckland.
  • I like the Ride Share Guy podcast

PM me if you want to chat.
