We know of a car that has been in the garage unused for a couple of years. The battery is sure is dead, but can it fail a jump start?

I have tried googling this but failed to find an answer.  Thanks.

Cheers

Edit - there is power when hooked up lights, aircon etc.  It cranks.  We have left the cables on for 10mins prior to jumping it.  Have also added petrol.

rayonline: We tried jumping it to no avail ... can batteries go so bad that a jump start does not work?

That will be useful :)  Supercheap after putting in the car's detail is a $550 battery.  Petone Battery Cell store is under $350.  The battery that SCA suggest for the car is a DIN75LAGM (800 CCA).  AA Battery wants a bit more than $400.

Yes

Can also confirm this.

Had a faulty battery that refused to hold charge.  Got to the point where I couldn't jump start it either from a jump pack or another car.
Have also had another one that drained past the point where it could be charged on a normal charger.  Had to be force charged at the battery shop before it could be put on a conditioning charger.
