to be honest i dont see any sales that you dont see throughout the year.

the xbox sales are dissapointing, unless your a fan of certain games. id like to have seen an xbox and kinect for $500. even that to me isnt a HUGE sale. its just the same as the $700 - a bunch of games i personally have no interest in. ie they trying to offload ms stock.

xbox sales pretty disappointing as you said. In the USA its normally cheaper than the ps4 but here its the other way round.

But that Sony UHD TV for $1499 really does seem like a steal!

TeaLeaf: what format plays uhd? is it really worth twice the price minimum?

i can understand ultra wide on monitors but not 4k tvs

either way 40" 1080 for $480 sounds reasonable.

You dont need the content to benifit from smaller pixels on the screen, Yes native 4k content will look a lot nicer than 1080 stuff.

if I put a 65"+ TV in the bedroom, all I would see is pixels. No good. 4k means I should be able to hang an 80+ inch and not be looking at a giant checkerboard.

I would love to get it, but I'm overseas so can't make it. :-(

Thanks. I don't know much about TVs. Is that Sony uhd one significantly better than this lg one?http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/tv-and-audio/televisions/4k-uhd-televisions/lg-55-4k-ultra-hd-smart-led-lcd-tv.html

Thanks.

From my reading they are both the entry level 4k model. Don't know which is better.

richms: I'm only going to entertain 70" 4k as the next upgrade from the 55 1080 screen.

I think I might go 4K when TVs go really big, much bigger than 70" even and only if OLEDs have stalled.  As I'm sure you know, you'd still have to sit really close to a 70" TV to see differences compared to 1080p. Here's great site with a nifty calculator for viewing distances (calculator is at the bottom of the page)

http://carltonbale.com/does-4k-resolution-matter/

I'd sooner see bigger OLED 1080p TVs come out at this stage.  I was hoping there might be some crazy boxing day deals on the current LG OLED models but looks like I'll have to wait for sometime next year.

PS: I see there are comments on the article highlighting other benefits of 4K which I think you might have been alluding to richms in your post above.  Interesting, I'll have to reflect on that.
