We didn't have much in mind to grab this year so we took a late start and only got to the Porirua Mega Centre around 10:00. I had to say the only thing that got my attention was the 55" Sony Ultra HD 3D Smart TV for $1499. There were still three left there when I was there. 10 mins later, NONE LEFT.

LG and Panasonic also had similar models for sale at similar prices BTW and are still available among the NL stores and JB Hifi

I don't see any mention of Skinny on the WHS Moto-G phone details page, but the phone does appear if I sort by carriers - does anyone know if the phone would be locked? I assumed that because the product page didn't mention any carrier affiliation it wouldn't be locked, but I could be wrong.

It's an open network device. It's Moto G2 you after at $239 the 5 inch version. Their sale still on for another 3 days, you'll be fine.

Annoying that staff members didn't know.

Sony at Sylvia Park had the 48" and 50". The 48" was $699 in the morning down to $649 in the afternoon. Seemed to have plenty of stock and like they really want to get them out the door. They didn't seem to advertise this so you had to walk in to see the price. I'm surprised they price match and beat the competition on this.

frustrating aye, like a bit of a have really.

New TVs have slim line edges and then you have to pay another $300 or so for the speakers you used to receive for free?!!!

bought one today and connected it to 2degrees without issue.

just make sure you get the generation 2 model, i asked for the g2 and the first staff member got the g1 and then i said i wanted g2 they got a "phone staff member", who also then got a g1 device. third time they got it right and go the generation 2 model.

Picked up the 50" sony 1080p. Smart looking kit and the screen is sharp. Played same source on the panasonic and samsung and the sony was much better, but preferred the samsung inteface.

Got the sony blue ray player, everything works nicely together.

dont like the tv stand, it wobbles but only if you bump it so its generally fine. there might be a way to secure it so it doesnt wabble if bumped. doesnt move in a breeze or people walking passed so its ok.

i dont have a problem with the audio, find it plenty loud enough. but we arent AV gurus so we dont have high expectations.

lcd black levels have come a long way.

only issue playing a blue ray movie, i got black bars at the top, during the movie i cant figure out how to full frame the screen, anyone know?

It's meant to have black bars. Bc movies are not 16:9

The movie was not shot in 16:9 and is meant to look like that (black bars at the top and bottom). If normal tv i.e. the news fills the screen you're fine...

No, UHD is still 16:9. There are 21:9 panels around, LG make some PC monitors with them and philips used to do TVs in it, but then you have to mess around changing zoom settings between movie content and TV content, and the TV content will either be pillarboxed, cropped or distorted just like when there was 4:3 content on 16:9 screens. I find width the limiting factor in room layout so a narrower wider screen of a 21:9 wouldnt really solve anything.

Some tvs have a zoom mode Under aspect ratio to fix your problem by chopping out the sides of your 1:2.35 picture. Nothing to do with uhd. Not sure what you've been watching all these time

yeah i went looking for aspect ratio but can only find it when not during a mvoie. the movie seems to over ride it. its bizarre.
