$199 for that? That's a great price for it considering all the features it comes with!

I used to buy the garmin gps units, but, there is no need now . My iphone is better, and, you can download maps for offline use, similar to garmin.

My reasons include the iphone performance being superior, and ios/google maps seems to have better non-street searching (eg companies / restaurants / schools etc) than on the garmin units. Apple maps has improved significantly too.

It is a little sad to see apple knocking so many other companies products out of action. I can't imagine garmins current auto navigation business is sustainable - luckily they have other product lines which should keep them going for the medium term at least.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Is this
- 'standard cost from the supplier' before any rebates?
- 'standard cost from the supplier' after any rebates?
- 'standard cost from the supplier' excluding any current supplier specials?
- 'standard cost from the supplier' plus a share of the operating costs for the store (rent/power/wages/etc)?
- etc etc

When buying, as always, shop with your eyes open. Are you prepared to pay a little more from a stable retail chain with good after-sales service, or have you done your homework and want the item at its absolute cheapest price and you are prepared to use a discount outlet understanding there may be next to no service if something goes wrong?

If something in this sale interests you, perhaps take a smartphone and google for prices while you are there or use https://price.geekzone.co.nz/ and then think about cost vs service before buying.

Exactly. That's usually what it is. Besides - how would you even know what their unit cost is to check they're being honest?

It's a marketing gimmick to say "cost + xx%" - nothing more.

I have a friend like that - uses a Nokia 100 because the battery last for days (that wuld be a valid excuse if you were an insomniac and it was therefore inconvenient to just plug your phone in each night before bed) and has to take a bulky digital camera when he wants to photograph anything and then plug a cable into his laptop to transfer photos, writes everything on paper "because a piece of paper never gets a flat battery" and various other excuses. He doesn't even use internet banking - not even phone banking! He physically goes to the bank to pay GST and tax... by cheque.

And another friend's wife, she does all the business books on paper - refuses to even turn a computer on. Total insanity. Not sure how she'll cope when GST can only be done online which is coming.

The thing is, NL does these Cost plus sales, and they are cost plus 5 or 7%, which is about their normal floor margin anyway. Some higher margin items (accessories, headphones etc.) are good prices on these deals, TVs are not (generally - exceptions apply for TVs that aren't normally discounted like large, slow moving lines).

SD cards and Batteries are a great example.

I get cost + 10% and both items work out to be 1/3 of the retail price, i.e. $12 worth of batteries comes out to be $4

Another good example. I used a cost + 7% flyer just before Xmas to purchase a 2m micro USB cable. Retail price was $19.99. I paid $5.00. So for some things it is worth it.

I also tried to use it on a Bose Soundlink Mini II BT speaker. Retail was $359, cost + 7% price came to around $308. Still a reasonable saving, but I also had a print out from the Bose NZ website as they had the same speaker on special for $299. I whipped that out, they price matched, and I saved myself another $8 - $9.
