Bit of a stretch there. I guess if we make the World Champs we will be near favourite. It does help playing poor teams at home though. NZ vs Australia, tight game, we are joint number 1 so looking great. Devon Conway will be a good water boy too

Tight game? We have been thrashed by them in our last 5 games. Remember the final will not be on a 5-day green seamer. We might actually have to get some of them out with a spinner. Lyon v Santner/Patel/Sodhi is a mismatch.
Our best bet for winning it would have been India in the UK.

Being sarcastic, should have put a /s but I thought it was obvious. Based on our ICC Test No.1 ranking. We will be thrashed if we get there. But, we do have a potentially very very good team, a lot of depth if we choose to use it.

Handle9: Williamson terrible again. Must be dropped.

Handle9: 9 wickets when you only need 6 RPO for the last 7 overs is dominant. If you don't need to take risks why take them?
I didn't see most of the second innings, but yes, I get that. I would take the future stance. Easy wins against the Windies and this lack lustre Paki team is good. But it doesn't help us against the big boys. To compete against Oz we need to take over lesser teams. Get the knee on the throat mentality, as most if not all elite teams have.
I think we all "possibly" agree what a 3 anything series against Australia would end like. Dominated at the minimum. What we have could be potentially very very good, but having narrow wins against low opposition is in my opinion, not the platform to grow from.
Handle9: No we don't all agree at all. When we play Australia in New Zealand we generally do very well.
As usual you are discounting the quality of our performances. Every side that comes to NZ is rubbish according to you. Pakistan isn't a lowly ranked team in any way but they are playing away.
It's rare for sides to win away, including Australia.
Sorry for expecting a discussion. instead its the usual negative. Windies are a rebuilding team. Expected. Pakistan is lowly ranked Test and ODI but well placed T20. Expected a solid opposition in T20, didnt happen against a NZ B team where all the key bowlers were rested. I dont really see that as usual rubbishing them, it's realistic. Yes, we have an advantage playing at home, that's why the ICC test rankings are a bit of a joke. Great to see, but we have had easy street. Lesser teams often, at home often.
If we want to win at the highest level, we need to up our game. Wins against these two sides are probably a negative. You are better to as an analogy, lose to AUS 4 times then go to a series, than win 4 times agains a lesser team.
Not on topic but not worth a new topic.
Its one thing playing hard, but once again poor sportsmanship prevails. Bodyline, when was that? Seems ages ago, but its todays news again.
Australia and scummy cricket (sport in general) tactics. If this is how you get to be "the best" I'll hard pass and happily settle for being second or third. Good job on India for beating them anyway.
