interestingly I took a look at the points standing, it reads merc merc ferrari ferrari red bull red bull!

Stil a loooooooong way to go yet ... not at all excited.

What is disappointing though, is the lack of action, other than the first few corners. One stop race throughout the year - what's with that! YAWN

They have both changed the tyre rules and changed the tyres so teams are able to go way longer on a set. I will agree that it was more fun when you were never sure if the tyres would last.

i still can't imagine how ... 364kph on a public road ... yet these cars are apparently "slower" than their V10 predecessors

The V6s are slowly gaining all the lap records. They are theoretically more economical than the V10s but not slower afaik.

Because it's not telling him how to use/setup/drive his own car.

I suspect that if the young kids also had the issues with the engine mode that Raikonnen and Hamilton had they wouldn't be be able to solve it either... It just doesn't normally happen unless you knock a switch (e.g. Nico) as the teams prepare the engine modes.

Remember that Hamilton, Rosberg etc. are children of the console generation and so is used to the idea of 100s of changes that can be made on the wheel, its not just the new kids.

Either way, I'm disappointed in the radio ban to a certain extent. I'd like them to be able to communicate engine map problems like this as it clearly affected both the drivers to the detriment of their race but still keep the driving aiding away.

Pretty much agree. Hamilton was confused, so Im not sure if he wasn't up to the task, or Rosberg was luckier to rest it earlier. Max didn't know the question was about mode issues, hence his reply that he's ok with it. Same with Ricciardo until he was advised what the issue was, then he agreed that if its a non racing skill/help comms, but an engineering fix comms, that it should be allowed. I agree 100%.

Pit wall i would say. Maybe radio, as thats not a help/safety issue maybe?

So from the articles I've read it appears that Hamiltons car was set to the wrong mode by the mechanics / engineers when it before the car was sent out to the track, while Rosberg accidently put his in the mode while driving during the race; Rosberg was immediately told that there was a problem and as he had just done it he found it quickly... Hamilton would have had NO idea where to start as it wouldn't be obvious... another noobie error from Hamilton's new mechanics/engineers... Seems quite common this season since Mercedes swapped their crews around.

Hard to say. As mentioned they are the console generation. And they should know or be shown all the modes, and all reasons why mode changes might be used for problem solving.

But Hamilton seemed lost, both in the race and after the race when he was interviewed. He ended upon doing anything. True a fail by whoever didn't set the car correctly, but mainly from the team for not ensuring that knowledge was there. Rosberg said he boned up on that more. Lewis said there are 100, no 200 combinations.

Q: Why were the settings wrong in the first place?

TW: Well, the settings were wrong because we had a messy Friday where we couldn’t configure it in the way we should have done, so everything was pre-set in the wrong way and it started to show a little bit earlier on Lewis’ car than on Nico’s car. Three laps earlier.

Q: Were the issues anything to do with the track layout? Or have you introduced a new mode?

TW: You are always trying to optimise the mode - and this was the optimisation! Unfortunately it didn’t work. It simply failed.

So, after a messy Friday, they decided the best config, and it was a bad config, not a faulty one, or the wrong one. "couldn't configure it" was does that mean??? When they say the wrong way I take that as meaning what they wanted but what was a poor config.

Catch up. The conspiracy theories were put to rest ages ago. Nobody thought his 'new mechanics/ engineers' were noobie when they put together practically flawless performances in Monaco in a very complicated weekend and 2 weeks later in Canada.

Maybe he shouldn't have turned up and shown off about barely driving the track in the simulator and then when he turns up he decides to play with his dogs on snapchat instead of going on a track walk.

I never said conspiracy, that's just a dumb comment. These guys are highly professional and also well trained, but this crew does appear to not be as consistent as the crew from the previous seasons... You can still be experienced and trained but do basic errors from time to time.

For someone that doesn't do simulators, he dominated free practice (all three sessions) so sure, blame that; he had a crap qualifying and then the team had the car in the wrong mappings...

From what I recall other drivers saying, there can be over 1000 settings on the a current F1 wheel alone; I would certainly not be expected to know every single one and to be able to diagnose an engine mapping fault and then put it in the right one... Kimi couldn't do it either, so its not just Hamilton.

I doubt Rosberg would be able to solve the situation either that Hamilton was in, not that I have a clue about these wheels bar what I have read and seen, but man their complex; its crazy to see them going through options and changing settings on the approach to braking zones!
