It would cost the Crusaders sfa to change their name out of respect - but they wont - and those of you who say they shouldn't are just as insensitive.

The Chiefs have some tangible link to New Zealand, as in "we have Maori chiefs in New Zealand".

If you have evidence of crusades in the Canterbury region in 1000 AD then you should probably let those Celtic NZ blokes know.

Although, given the horses are back, it really does look like "Make a small short term gesture that requires zero effort but be unwilling to consider any actual, substantive change". Which it is.

I agree with networkn. And I see the horses are back, I live here, Ive met Muslims, I;m not a hard core rugger fan, so I could be PC and just say ban it all, but lets be sensible.

The rugger team is an NZ team. Did they choose this brand because of what happened in a certain past? Or did they see a very cool C word that goes with Canterbury?

I was surprised to see the horses back as were my family. I think they could flag it without issue, but if they decide not to, then I am not that worried about it. As I have said over and over again, what real-world difference does the name, logo or symbolism make to those who are affected?

I think the Highlanders carrying a sword in their logo is no less offensive and the Highlanders have a violent history, perhaps not one linked to a mass murder in NZ, but the imagery is there.

I can't disagree strongly enough, that the cost will be SFA, it will be significant and to an organization who makes bugger all to start with (they have some good years and some not so good years). If you think it's SFA, then by all means, feel free to offer to cover the costs since it seems mighty important to you.

There are many things people could be doing to help the affected, that doesn't go anywhere near this entirely empty gesture. Not one Muslim person I have spoken to could give a rats about it.
