Looks like continuation of good racing, with Ferrari now clearly level with Mercedes, if not a baby step better

Although the only real race may be Bottas and Kimi, as Vettel is the best front runner the sport and Mercedes cannot follow, so maybe not so exciting. Will need a safety car to close up again.

When they change the rules again, I expect one team to get it right, and to dominate. They need to evolve these specs and not start over, as over time cars get closer.

No evidence of such, just going by the results of the last race. Again, Merc has the edge in race craft. Somehow.

I too was thinking the same thing after the last few races, but the performance by Hamilton was truly amazing and really does show how good both he and the Mercedes car are.

It is great to see some competition this year though, and I see the 2019 season shaping up to be a particularly interesting one.

Ferrari didn't make any mistakes did they? Was hoping Kimi would win coz for a few minutes I saw he was in the lead then he was third.

Really? The rain threw it all up in the air. If anyone won out or lost out, all luck. VES took two pitstops, and was the closes 4th when the SC left than he was all race. Bottas had Hamilton, but they called that off after one try, so that ended what was a race, to be procession. But thats F1 often.

I agree it s great to see competition this time round. The bummer is a new spec in 2020, so one team, could be any of the bigger ones will get it right and dominate again. But I'll hope otherwise.

Are we taking through this season? Or you are picking on this race? They should have let him past Limi sooner, that was clear. But they have been solid strategy wise this year.

Brundle, Lazenby, Di Resta, Hill

What has points got to do with it, when Ferrari have made very recent upgrades that have propelled them to what is seen is slightly more HP, and a better chassis. This lot which includes lets say 400+ races, one World Drivers Championship, and countless hours spent on the sport every week, say that Ferrari are the favourites for the second half of the season. Add to this that despite the power advantage of Mercedes, Vettel and Ferrari have been there from Melbourne.

in breaking news......

Around the Stroll family table..

Lance: "Dad I'm not doing that well with Williams right now"
Lawrence: "What do you want me to do son?"
Lance: "Well Force India is going well this year can you buy it for me?"
Lawrence: "Sure thing son, consider it done, but promise me you will keep the cars straight and drive properly"

https://thesportsrush.com/lawrence-stroll-has-bought-force-india/

Force India’s weak financial condition meant that rumors had started doing the rounds about a possible registration for ‘controlled bankruptcy.

And those rumors have actually come true, as according to AutoBild, Lawrence Stroll has bought Force India from its existing(rather previous) owners Vijay Mallya, Subrata Roy and Michiel Mol.

It is however not clear if Stroll has bought a majority stake in the team or has completely bought the team for himself.

But whatever it is, one thing is for sure, the billionaire’s son, Lance Stroll will now drive for Force India.

Lawrence had earlier invested his money in his son’ team, Williams, however, lack of performance from Williams and an opportunity to buy an entire team seemed a little too enticing for Lawrence.

With Stroll moving to Force India, it will be interesting to see how the driver market behaves in the next few weeks.

One of Ocon or Perez will have to move and reports suggest that Ocon has already found suitors at Renault.

The Stroll effect will lead to movement in all midfield F1 teams, with a lot of the action set to take place during the summer break.

A lot of the movement would depend on Alonso’s decision about staying in F1 or quitting for some other form of motorsport, or quitting car racing entirely.

For the ‘Force India’ brand, it is good that it found a prospective buyer after the current(previous) owners bailed out on it due to financial constraints.

It will be interesting to see what kind of management is put in place to run the team and if it can continue to fight for supremacy in that midfield group.

Is the change of drivers effective immediately?

Nice move, it was hinted at during the weekend commentary. Stroll seems not bad although he hasnt had much opportunity to show his wares. As to will the drivers change immediately, I have no idea but it would make sense. This is the summer break, bit of time to play with. Give a half season to bed in, so they can start 2019 as a settled, locked down team.

I dont see Alonso staying. he can go to Indycar and be back to winning, and the Indy500.

Agreed.  McLaren still prance around as if they're a leading player, but they haven't been there for 10+ years or so and it's just sad to see them flounder about like this.

Very hard when you talk the talk but can't achieve on game day.  Alonso has done well to keep them up in the points, but mostly that's about one or more of the top players retiring.

Scott Dixon must be due for a change of scene now?  Switch to F1?

Re Alonso, I read somewhere the Indy stint came via a Honda connection.  With McLaren pulling out of that arrangement (after years of being a test team) the link to jump into a competitive indy car may not be there now?
Still Alonso did very well during his Indy time, playing to the sponsors and crowd etc.  He showed how to respect their sport and do it right, so he certainly made bridges rather than burn them.
