Ferrari now clearly level with Mercedes, if not a baby step better

No evidence of such, just going by the results of the last race. Again, Merc has the edge in race craft. Somehow.

All the experts disagree.

Name the experts please. I presume they are unable to count points.

Brundle, Lazenby, Di Resta, Hill

What has points got to do with it, when Ferrari have made very recent upgrades that have propelled them to what is seen is slightly more HP, and a better chassis. This lot which includes lets say 400+ races, one World Drivers Championship, and countless hours spent on the sport every week, say that Ferrari are the favourites for the second half of the season. Add to this that despite the power advantage of Mercedes, Vettel and Ferrari have been there from Melbourne.

Again, don't know what the experts are talking about, but looking at the last 2 race results, no evidence of that, in fact they were 18 seconds apart.

I don't know why people get excited about predicted performance, where the only thing that really matters (to me anyway) is the final result.

If its found that car A is 1/3 of 1% faster, as Ferrari appear to be, that doesnt mean that they are 1/3 of 1% faster every lap and every race. Maerc have been better all season apart from very recently, and yet the constructors is still close.

Mercedes should have won every race by a minute for the last 4 years if you believe so.

A lacklustre race, what could have been. RBR failed to quali, Ferrari failed the pitstop, so a procession.

Danny Ricc made a bad call, passing on the outside of a car that he knew had front end damage, what else will happen? Understeer.

Ferrari would have likely won, has Vettels pitstop been ok. He had the speed. Notably at mid race, the slo-mo of Vettels tyres at 33 laps were in better condition than Hamilton at 8. A last run of 25 naps on Ultra's would have been fun.

Commentators mentioned 2020/21 new regs that include front wing? Unsure if that was fact or opinion.

These cars need aero cut right back. If they can follow and pass, thats racing, its not when the aero is an invisible no-go area keeping rear cars away

EDIT Ignore bold, he wasn't told of Bottas's damage, he should have been told by his team before lining him up.

That is the problem with Ferrari. Fast car or not, they just do not know how to win races.

1. With a budget of a billion dollars, they fail to see a Haas blocking Kimi, they also fail to inform him or plan something. Something Merc I am sure, deals with a lot, hence you don't see these mickey mouse nonsense.

2. Can't help the drivers during the race, just watch with mouth aghast.

Where as Merc, fast car or slow car, beats Ferrari more often than not. It doesn't matter if it's Alonso, Kimi, Massa, Vettel.

Interesting. First half, Mercedes was as always, dominant. But 6 races in the three top teams won 2 races each. Should have been 6 to Mercs?

I assume Mercedes has a faultless strategy record. Unsure why they failed to win 4 of the first 6 races when dominant.

Why Lewis vs Seb is close at 5 to 4

Why first half season Merc dominance which has very recently turned around and Hamilton got some recent luck with two wins, the Constructors is 345 to 335.

Seems that overall, Mercedes has under performed if you look at their dominance and your comments. If Ferrari dont know how to win races, then Mercedes, given the points, have well under performed.  So maybe recheck team and driver performances to see why.

Such a boring race.  Once the out of position cars finished their overtaking progression back up the order, it became processional again.

Like many I've followed F1 for years and been to several races, but man I'm kinda struggling to get behind this.

To some degree it's about ensuring there are possibilities to make mistakes with consequences (ie that can be punished for, allowing real skill to be rewarded) and there is a natural (not a fan of DRS) opportunity to position and challenge for an overtake.

I'm not really seeing that environment.

F1 -

20 cars go around the track and at the end of the day LH usually wins

long may that NOT continue but nobody else seems to know how to win

Wrong but I agree with the sentiment. What other sport is there where the player is a small part? Where two items may be close but after 20 seconds the result is 80% known.

Sports are competitive. F1 is competitive. But while everyone is about the drivers, it’s a Constructors Championship. Team orders, Barrichello and Massa moving over, Mercedes 1 and 2 then the magically have Rosberg 7 seconds behind, Drivers wise its a rort, but it isn’t as its ONLY a Constructors Championship

unexpected, but not unsurprising he has moved.  It has been clear that Max is RBs #1 driver even with his errors and issues during this year.  If the package continues to improve the Renault should be good for higher placed positions.... DR will need to outrace Hulkenberg though, otherwise it won't look so good for DRs rating.

Wow. Renault are strong, if they can step up a bit HP wise they can make it the big 4. Wonder if 2 years allows the reasonable option of Kimi for 2 years then Dan to race for Ferrari and finish his career with them?  That may force Vettel to step up a bit as Danny Ricc will be hungry, Vettel maybe less so. I wonder if there is a 1 year exit clause, for the same reason

Sainz is I guess the obvious one

Poor McLaren, got stuck at Honda beta testing the engine that's now doing ok in other cars.

Still prancing around like a major player, but haven't been close to the top in many year, and score by being around to pick up scraps if the top 3 or 4 happen to exit early.

Ricciardo fitted well into the Red Bull culture, but I wonder what it was that made him jump.

No.2 driver mentality that RBR have?  That Renault stand more chance of a jump up the rankings than RBR with a Honda? I still feel there is a Ferrari drive, or Mercedes in the back of his mind

Definitely.

Would have to ask Alonso and one Flavio Briatore when Renault were last title contenders, and how that worked out...
