You can't know who is fastest and who is going to win until the last card has been played in a race. Definitely not 2 days before the chequered flag, and most definitely not 3 weeks before the race. No matter who says what. I don't care how expert they are.

That's quote obvious. Teams will win despite the strengths they have, otherwise every game result would be known. Doesn't change anything as far as my comments stand. Ferrari is the new Mercedes despite this race or the last race. But what is clear is when Hamilton wins this thread has posts first thing, when he doesn't, it doesn't. He has done quite well for starting in a car 5 years ago that was 2 seconds per lap better than anything else, I'm surprised he didn't win every race. Plus every time he's in an incident its never his fault. Reminds me of another sport

Haven't watched it it yet. Agree, from what little it says on Stuff, he was caught in the mess without it being his fault, but it seems to me that he gets into the melee and even if its not his fault, he seems to try too hard at the start and places himself in potential danger, and the stats take over. However, possibly under pressure and this makes him take that risk to make a good start?

They don't all have to take it, invariably the smart ones don't take it, they are careful, although that's obviously no protection. There is an accepted risk in turn 1, but if you place yourself there as much as you can, you will pay. To finish first, first you must finish.

Should be a fun to the finish. Constructors is the main title. Merc are up exactly one win, so with two cars, it's pretty close. Drivers, Hamilton up 30 points, that's a big start, up 1 win and 3 podiums.

If Ferrari is the new Mercedes they would win every race. Having experts say they have more horsepower does not a winning car make. This season so far it's merc 6 wins, Ferrari 5, rbr 3.

Looks pretty even to me.

Its even yes. Ferrari has slightly more HP, and a better chassis, a more versatile car. All things being equal it would win more than lose.

That Merc is one win up is flattering to them. They started off with a smaller but clear HP advantage, yet were trailing. Vettel made mistakes, and yet Merc are only 25 points ahead, 12.5 per car. They should be further ahead

Mercedes sandwich not the best way to be so that was that, but thats strategy, so its fine. Had Vettel been there in a 4 car fight, it would have been a procession. The red car is just a bit strong.

Naughty Max, especially beeping on the mic, then being a sad sack and giving up after his penalty, "I don't care" He did not give Bottas space, he closed it. he didnt need to do anything, it was not going to be a pass, and Bottas would have been on the wrong line so, it was a waste of a penalty by Max.

Glad he's still in the sport for another 2 years. That guy cracks me up.

Keen to see Fernando in Indycar too. Hoping that one does come off.

Still finding F1 relatively boring at the moment, and find that quite sad. The racing hasn't been too bad this year, but the sound of the cars just isn't there.

Do you watch F2? Thats good watch. Damon Hill commentated last race and talked about the lack of good racing in F1, as in F2 the cars have the same engine. In F1 you need two to tango, which has been lost for 4 years. On rare occasions that was expected, turn 1 ended it. Now, things have closed up a lot, which is great. BUT there is a new spec soon, and one team will get a better result, and we do the last years over again. Its a Constructors Championship, not a Drivers Championship, but the public watch it as a Drivers Championship. Thats the problem.

You could trial the F2 concept. Two races, second race is a reverse grid for the top 8. Or two races, where the second race has the same cars.

Yeah I see that written a lot, but it's both.

There is a drivers championship and a constructors championship going on simultaneously.

I had high hopes for this year, as in wider tyres and less reliance on aero, and to be fair Ferarri have been more in the mix than previous recent years.

I think F1 is going to struggle with the now diverging aspects of being the pinnacle of technology and being exciting racing.

Very soon the pinnacle will be electric and very very close to self driven cars, with little noise.

There is a drivers championship and a constructors championship going on simultaneously.

Thats right, but its a team sport, the team is in a Constructors race for prestige and income, they call the shots, and the drivers have to follow. If they have that sown up, they are happy to progress the driver who has title hopes. The cars and the cars teams win the races.
