Pity they can change tyres, that made it a two race race. Better to be like a safety car where some make a gain some make a loss, but to change tyres is too much a gain or loss.

Glad they've ditched the qually changes - that was snore inducing. Having said that, the race was little better.

Great race. Action through the field, the winner wasn't obvious 27 out.

RBR went great, Hass, Palmer. Max was a fail. Loved the banter with Vettel and Webber.

If Ferrari went medium, they race Mercedes one on one, and will lose as Merc are faster. They hoped a pitstop, two fast superset stints and Merc medium might not last. Easy to say now though.

Merc faster in free air. Merc following is unknown. They didn't want to take the chance. Still ended up third.

I thought under red flag the cars were effectively in park ferme conditions. I remember when it was red flagged in Malaysia(?) because of a downpour a year or 2 ago they were able to change tyres to wets, but i didn't think that was typical of red flag.

I'm quite fond of the V8 Supercars top 10 shoot out. Timed elimination and then a shoot out would work for me.

Formula one is a horrid mess of rules and inability to change the rules.

I liked that Ferrari seemed closer to Mercedes, and Red Bull were there to some degree also.

McLaren, the one team with a real Kiwi connection, are going to flounder for several more years until Honda come up to speed.

Guts of the problem spectator wise for me is V12 vs V6. The sound difference is still massive.

I remember hearing the sound through the buildings of downtown Melbourne and it sending shivers of excitement down my spine.

Then at the track you literally lost control of your bowels every time the cars went past, it was intense.

Save fuel getting to the track, don't pretend it's aligned with the core of racing.

Saving fuel is the least of the environmental impact.
Tyres, moving everything round the globe a few times, the other bits that get made thrown tested made and thrown that we don't see.

Quite safe now though, it's 2016 and everything is more controlled.

It's a difficult game to play, as in what do you change in F1, and lots of parties with different levels of influence etc.

I read once about how really the game is about ensuring there are sufficient opportunities to stuff up. Limited radio communications, refuelling, manual gear changing, lots of options for tyres, wheelspin, aero that allows for following and slingshot passes etc all provide opportunities to spice it up.

As we move to a more safe car design and track with ample run off areas, and automatic control of the car functions and computers crunching the strategies etc, it all becomes more bland.

F1 is always going to wrestle with being both the pinnacle of motor car development, and a spectator sport (be that physically at the track or watching internationally) that promotes drivers as celebrities like Hollywood has done with movies for years.

I can't believe how bad the cars sound (I love the comparison above) however I've not heard the current cars in the flesh.

I found it intriguing that Hamilton couldn't get past the Toro Rosso earlier on in the race. Shows that the Mercedes isn't that dominant in dirty air perhaps?

Nonetheless it looks McLaren aren't going to be a complete embarrassment, no more 200bhp drop near the end of long straights.

Albert Park is notoriously difficult to pass. I think it shows the old Ferrari engine has the same hp as the new Merc.

That was an entertaining race.

Mercedes. Both at fault. Rosberg was slow as fixing being on the wrong mode, Lewis committed too soon into a gap. No penalties. Normally the speed differential would have been a lot less, and it wouldn't have happened.

Ricciardo was unlucky. Strategy had his middle stint losing time over 5 or 6 laps. If that was right he could have been at Vettel sooner, and those two would have closed the gap, making it a possible 4 way battle.

Max, well. Super drive. While he didn't do much that was awesome, he was mistake free. At 18, thats magnified.

Lewis didnt want to talk about the accident, whereas Rosberg saw it as his fault, he let that much out.

Rosberg has contract for next year, lewis supposedly doesnt amid rumours he might leave. Sabbatical, no way. Where else? Can only be Ferrari, alongside Vettel.

1. Hamilton and Vettel? Oh no, it will be worse than with Alonso.

2. What ROsberg did to Hamilton is what Hamilton does to ROsberg day in, day out. The only difference is, ROsberg will lift off, avoiding what happens to Lewis when he doesn't lift off. Granted, the difference in this situation is ROsberg was in the wrong mode. So, blame is 50-50. In fact no blame.

3. Max did really really well by not making a single mistake after being pressured by iceman for a loooooong time. I feel for Kimi. I so was hoping he'd finally get a win. Good on Max.

4. Big loser of the day, Ricciardo ;p

Vettel and Hamilton get on pretty well I think. But, while I admire his speed and talent, I don't like his attitude. If he wins he's GREAT, then if he loses he's sour. Now, you will get the good day and the bad day with anyone, but its like he thinks he's a step above the others. keeps to himself in the track parade. These little body language things arent a great look. He used to slip up with questioned, now he takes the PC middle road, albeit scripted, pretty artificial. AND he gave little acknowlegement to Max, and that was only when asked before he walked away. Ouch. Then it was a polite, short comment. Many don't like Vettel, but he's got brains, he's liked a lot better now, lewis has gone the other way, which is a great pity. That many other drivers are not only quick, they are pretty good sorts, perhaps makes him stand out, dunno.
