Can't go past Rafa's comment: Rafael Nadal says Serb could be playing 'without a problem' if he wanted to.

Yep. It starts on the 17th that's 11 days after Novak arrived

As I see it, he was allowed to come here as he had a Visa. he was allowed to enter as he had a medical exemption based on having had Covid, so all good

But based on the rules he has to quarantine as he is not eligible to be quarantine free as Tennis Australia was told 7 weeks ago

So, 17th is 11 days away (unsure if thats quali or the main field), TA will probably give him a bye, that buys 2 days. Give him a late match or a special exemption to avoid the first few days

Not sure how long their quarantine is

Perhaps but "Schofield said such people would “not be approved for quarantine-free entry" implies that they could be approved for quarantine entry but not quarantine free entry.

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/rules-rules-australian-pm-says-022958750.html

PM says "Rules are rules and there are no special cases”.

“The ABF (Australian Border Force) has done their job. Entry with a visa requires double vaccination or a medical exemption,” Morrison said.

(thus he needs to get an exemption)

He got an exemption. Appears to me the issue is quarantine free or quarantine, and he wants quarantine free which he is not eligible for as TA was told mid Nov

he was never granted exemption by federal govt/immigration

the mess is caused by Tennis Australia and Victoria State granting him medical exemption from vaccination that is not authorised by federal govt

Does Serbia have a Navy to threaten Australia with ?

More people have already been discovered who might have got through the same lack of oversight.

By the afternoon, the ABC's Andrew Greene tweeted: "Tennis Australia is believed to have granted exemption letters to two other individuals which don't meet Australian government entry requirements. Australian Border Force officials are now investigating their cases".

I don't really have a problem with him playing, as long as the rules are applied equitably. That's basically guaranteed now.

I don't like the guy, in fact I despise him for his stance on COVID/Vaccines among other things.

But this whole thing just makes Tennis Australia, the Vic Government and the Fed Government look like complete numpties. Someone obviously cocked up up and told him and his entourage that he was clear to enter the country and compete. I hate to say it but I'm confident that his lawyers will find a way and he will play unfortunately.

My understanding is that he received an exemption from Tennis Australia and the Victorian Government to play in the tournament despite being unvaccinated, based on him having had Covid in the last 6 months. Naturally, Tennis Australia and the Vic State Gov do not control the borders of Australia and an exemption granted by them to play in their tournament has no bearing on entering the country, where the federal/Commonwealth requirements are incredibly clear. It also appears that this fact was clearly communicated to Tennis Australia from the governments.

I sincerely hope that he is not allowed to enter the country and no free pass is given to him. Rules are rules. Additionally, he is an arrogant munter at the best of times and represents the worst of professional sport IMO.

don't forget that apparently one other tennis player and one other tennis official have supposedly entered the country as free persons despite being in the exact circumstance of Novak Djokovic.

the two are apparently being investigated
