Yea I think this race finally proved all the stuff about Bottas being given the same opportunities as Hamilton have probably been outright lies from AMG.

That was pretty much outright when Russell nearly won when Covid covering for Lewis.  Didn't know jack about the car initially and would have taken it out without a team pit stuffup.  Slap someone like Alonso or Vettel etc in that car, with that team priortisation, and they've defnitely won the championship.

Yep. There are MANY drivers who in Mercedes would have crushed it. Not bagging Lewis, but he's portrayed as the God. He isn't. He's very excellent, no question, but if you are in a car that dominates since 2014 by TWO seconds per lap to begin with, there is a string of drivers that would have won also.

That was a boring wet race!

You could have gone from start to finish with one set of inters.

At least Hamilton thought so.

Ocon managed it, just. Apparently one tyre wouldn't have lasted another lap.

True, but there was a lot that could have happened. A tad more drying, a tad more rain, it was on a knife edge for a good while

Yeah, it was exciting in the way that anything could have happened, but in the end basically nothing happened. Shame Gasly couldn't get Lewis at the end there.

at first i thought i was biased - f1 is boring if LH wins but exciting if he doesn't. then my 12 year old said the same thing.

but respect to Sir Lewis he was full of praise for Max and then he thanked his team with zero ounce of sour the entire race and interview

You biased?? Narrrr  :-)

It was an edge of the set race, could have gone either way. Unless a race is entertaining and exciting, but it turns to boring if LH wins?

IMO this title wont be due to the car or the driver, it will be due to strategy, with good or bad luck able to add to lose valuable points. It would be a pity if either driver had a DNF not of their own making

you really should watch the interview at the end. a changed man. it was like from the early on the race he didn't think he would be able to pass max so he didn't expect to pass and hence very accepting.  maybe he also knows he has another engine penalty coming but i don't want to think too much, just want to see how the next 5 races play out.

I watched the stand up interview, from what I recall he said max was too fast? At the time I thought that was a bit odd, as while Max got pole, it was close, and Merc is faster, and ran less wing so was a lot faster in the speedtrap, RBR was 3rd slowest in the speed trap, and he cruised up to him with plenty of laps left. yes, he did downplay it (as usual) but it was more a strategy loss. As Brundle said, Merc is a faster car and and you have DRS and you have the tow, its indefensible for Max

But does this kind of sum up F1 at the moment? Hamilton closed to almost a second, but despite the above advantages, following a car still almost prevent then from getting within one second (and DRS) so it was almost moot.

Again, a few more laps could have been interesting, but the Red Bull and Merc are too closely matched for the tow and DRS to just blast past.

Max also missed DRS from Tsunoda and was hugely slowed down by Kimi so IDK, it swung both ways.
