It appeared to me that he gained track time, and to the commentators as well. It would be unfair to give a place back, as you say. But if he took a shortcut and gained metres, aka time, that should be given back. A more obvious reason if that was when DRS was enabled, and prior to the detection point. If telemetry showed he gained no time at all, then thats fine, but it didnt appear so. His speed was too hot, he went straight, at speed, and rejoined the track. Whereas the others were slow as going around the bend.

Vettel, yes. he is becoming Mr Entertainment. he needs an on track penalty to punish his language, and calling names to Charlie Whiting effectively. If those outburst are 5 seconds, they will stop . Any other sport they get dealt with

It's just Vettel being Vettel and Max being Max. Remember Vettel vs Webber? Except that this time it's Max. Over time, one of them will come out on top and the other dragging his tail between his feet. Usually the one with the faster car does the talking. Moving along, nothing to see here.

Vettel and Webber was the classic No.1 and No.2 driver management by the team. Same as Schumacher with Barrichello and Massa. The difference is, no one has a need to complain about Vettel's tactics, but many drivers do about Max.

Once again the highlights coverage jumped the middle 2/3rds of the race. Having watched he likes of Bathurst, the F1 series really needs something. The focus is to make them faster but it's the eco focus that's sapped the sport of its mojo. We want to see racing. The engines still sound like and you still have that borefest of one team being miles ahead of the rest. It's not good for sports to be like that for too long. Rugby suffers from it now also.

The point is that if it was, its a huge gain in track position for shortcutting the circuit. Evading DRS. Now it wasnt enabled but he has added time, so he has a free buffer for the laps ahead when it is enabled. Race Control said he backed off, that BS. He backed off, true, but still gained track position. So he gained an advantage.

That race, yes there was nothing to see, but thats not normally the case IMO. I dont care if the top two are miles ahead, thats just one factor. Although it would help immensley if they werent. It does make the championship , not a drivers title, as thats a Mercedes two driver championship. Slam dunk. Merc deserve the constructors though, clearly. Best overall package.

Stop the fuel limit, dont need to save 10kg of fuel to save costs and the world. Remove the tyre limits, so that a driver doesnt have to accept a lack lustre race if run out of tyres, its a 300km race, not a 3 day race. Get some of these offences dealt with quickly, so they KNOW its 5 or 10 second time penalty if I do this. 10 place penalty for swearing and/or abusing Race Control so that 200 million people can hear it

Entirely agree. If he had avoided cutting the corner he would have been in front or even behind Rosberg and that would have put him at risk.

I doubt he could have made the corner. he was in front, so I have no issue that he used the run off. But, back off so that he is in front of Rosberg, not halfway to Timbuktu. Many drivers commented on that. If this was Monaco, into the wall. If there was gravel, 90% its a DNF. Many commentators want these circuits desanitised, I agree. Gravel is a good safety measure, that slows the car a lot. A LOT more than a tarmac runoff, if a car fails at speed. If its wet, or if there is gravel, drive around it

Surely they could have a compromise between gravel and walls? It seems the cars can cope with dry grass in a straight line. Perhaps seal it, but put chicanes in, so if you're off, you have to slow to navigate the chicane, no option to go straight on. That way, if you miss your braking point, you won't beach in the gravel, or hit a wall, you'll have extra room to slow, but at considerable cost.

I have to say max thought it was a dry race while everyone was tip toeing around. Best race of the year despite the slow start

He drove great. Simple as that. I think Danny Ricc is now under pressure.

If Max wasn't doing his stuff, I think it would have been a boring race. Not match else was going on.

As for the first two, they got what they wanted. Lewis had to win, and with pole, no spray, he said he had a very easy race. His one disadvantage was testing the waters (out not intended) as he was in front, so job done. Must win, must stay on track. Done. Nico would have been happy with a red flag after lap 1. Running 2nd was the least, and easiest goal to achieve, done, Stay on track. They both played the cautious game, and both got what they want. Had Nico got past early, lewis would have had no choice but to gun it. Finishing 2nd is no good, spinning off while trying to overtake Nico is no good, but only option. Taking both of them out id no good, he would have been onto it like a Ferrari at Monza.

So, its down to the last race. Lewis has to win, and Nico run 4th or worse as I see it. The emotions will be running high. If Nico is lagging, its an easy choice, gun it, or lose the title. He will be nervous about fighting anyone, as he has a 1-2 car, needs top 3, needs no DNF or banging with others. Lewis has no option except to win and hope. Dry track will help Nico.

Congratulations to Nico Rosberg!

Great show of perseverence, consistency and making the most of every opportunity.

I'm not terribly impressed with Mercedes intervention though. With the constructor's championship already won and one of their drivers guaranteed the driver's championship, they have always taken the position that their drivers were free to race and that they would do everything within their power to ensure that it was an open and even contest for the title. For them then to introduce team orders at the 11th hour in an attempt to stop the "contest" playing out on track overstepped the mark for me.
