Don't think I've ever seen Boult so fired up, pretty awesome to watch.
We can't bat, that's been proven over and over.
Yeah, nah. All the batsmen (apart from Nicholls, watch his average climb now) in the current line up average >38 in tests. Even the all-rounders have 35 and 38 averages.
We can bat.

But we don't very often that's the thing. Past Taylor, Its easy to see losing all them for 60 runs. in the ENG ODI's that happened every game, but we luckily has unexpected innings for m a small few to cover those that failed. When that didnt happen we were done. We need consistency, where everyone bats to their average over the last 5 games, then the average is meaningful
Yes it did happen in the ODI. But such is the nature of cricket and statistics. You shouldn't base any opinion like that on a small statistical sample such as one match. NZ are comfortably ranked in the top 4 ODI sides.
You can re-tune your averages as often as you like - it will apply to all the other sides so won't necessarily change anything other than make them fluctuate so wildly as to be no use.

I get that, but its not one match. This happened all through the ENG games. 5 ODI's they were all carbon copies, batting wise. Once Pakis got on top of the conditions, we changed, that tells me a lack of confidence. I'd like rankings to be weighted, like ATP. Beat someone poor, no help, beat someone highly ranked big points, lost to a big team, still ok points if you still achieved a "good" loss. Recent results are more weighted than older ones and so on. The Windies tour really helped our rankings

The unfortunate thing is whether the rain delay will allow enough time for a result.
Exactly. And why I have been banging on about our run rate being way to slow KNOWING rain was going to reduce the match by at least 1-2days.
And why Ive been banging on about declaring way too late.
NZ didnt need 400, they need to bowl Eng out twice, and if we have runs to score so be it, it might be 150 off 30 overs etc, big deal, but HIGHLY unlikely. We should have declared first thing yesterday morning just like some commentators thought.
This isnt the first time NZ have stuffed up by potentially snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Auckland 2013 (K Williamson 4/44 bowling side fact)
England batted for 143 overs to draw the test with 1 wicket remaining. That time they had a lead of 441. I mean seriously, you have to risk having to bat again sometimes to win Tests. Its like Williamson thinks glass half empty some times.
The moral of the story is, you must bowl the other team out twice as first priority when you are in a commanding position. NZ's strength is Boult and maybe Southee, although I think Astle since picked should have been used, but really the only person to get spin on Eden park is Sodhi so moot point.
I spoke to 2 barmy army guys this morning and both said NZ should have declared yesterday morning. Its just obvious we should have looked to score faster than 2rpo for the majority of our innings. 70 overs at 4rpo and declare.
I just hope history doesnt repeat itself 4 years on.
K Williamson 4/44 bowling side fact
That was back in the days when he was chucking it :D
Agree that they may have waited a little late in declaration, but the rational is they wanted a newish ball to have a crack with at night. That didn't help them all that much with no movement. Lets see what the afternoon brings.

Haha true. His bowling stats are as good as Santners or Sodhis. His new action did get the ok, but maybe thats why he just gave up, too hard task and just concentrate on the bat, bit of a shame.
Missed the first wicket.
Yes definitely left declaration late, but if we cant bowl 6 wickets in 3 sessions now we dont deserve the win.
Still darn Eng bat all the way to 10 and the tail doesnt really start until 9. And these 2 can easily bat all day if they really applied themselves.
So its going to take the Boult agression I reckon. Our intent with the ball has to be aussie like, ANGRY !
Will that drop by Watling be the decider. ooooooo hehehe.
Never easy down leg but that should have been taken.
Doull is right, that end to the right hand batsman has some serious foot marks. Ok Astle is no Ish Sodhi in terms of spin but he s still a leg spinner, and that second bowlers mark is perfect for a leg spinner. Williamson being a spinner himself clearly has no faith in spinners.
Im totally over Colin bowling in tests. He got 6/.... on debut and has done nothing since. We have better bowlers and all rounders in 1st Class. Id rather Santner and Sodhi or Santner and Fergusson.
Bowling non spin to hit foot holes is silly. They arent pressured to score runs, they just leave them alone. Need to bowl at the stumps, force a shot, that allows a deflection
ENG would like to score runs, to lengthen the match, but that's high risk
Are the batters left or right handers? Can't leave or no-shot pad outside off stump if there's a chance it will spin into the stumps from the foot marks.

Spin yes for sure, but they are bowling pace across the stumps. Too fast to come back. Astle on soon who can target them
Edit, some footmarks are possible if he bowled onside and fullish
Oh right, sorry I'm with you know.
We've dropped a couple of catchable chances. I don't think we'll win now.
