As things stand it's probably Lawson's last season in F1. If they deem him not good enough for F1 and VCARB is a development team then I'd expect they'd promote Lindblad next season to be alongside Hadjar.

Probably a little early to say for sure. This weekend will only be his 14th F1 race which have come across two different teams, three different seasons and in four different cars. Needs a decent run at it to see what he can actually do. Definitely needs to improve his one-lap pace though, he's always been an inconsistent qualifier.

Quali, yes, wasnt big in F2. But without being a Kiwi uber fan, there is a lot between the lines. 11 GP's, did VERY well. Yuki then had 87. They picked Liam as not a lot between them, so Liam had far more room to develop. Yuki then had reached his peak. 2025 could have done better. Sergio with his vast experience and CV couldn't do it. Liam struggled with that car. Yuki will as well. Yuki doesnt get the podium he is targeting.... Doesnt get within 3/10 of Max. Qualis 11th, gets 11th, thats the reason Sergio was dropped. So if Yuki doesnt get big points every race, he is out. Lindblad comes in... Then you see the pic that was posted earlier when Marco gets the drive. They have run out of drivers. Its the car.

Read today that Sergio is looking at 2026. Love that. I bagged him as many did, but in retrospect its quite clear now. If Max left, and who knows, that could be 2025, if so, Red Bull Racing is well into the cold. While Racing Bulls are bullish, ironic.

Everything points to Tsunoda struggling, unless Red Bull have massively stuffed up their selection process. Yuki has been bullish about his prospects before stepping into the actual car, much like Liam was before the true reality of the task set in at Melbourne.

I think the money from Honda will guarantee a longer run in the seat for Tsunoda but, if he struggles, it will be a close run thing as to which head is next on the Red Bull sacrificial chopping block -- Tsunoda or Wache.

As for Lindblad, his main claim to fame is being British and therefore favoured by Horner. His record up to now doesn't read as impressively as might be expected for someone characterised as the 'next big thing'. Very early days yet in F2, let's see how he's done by the end of the season before Red Bull start popping the champagne on him.

i don't get all the negativity about this

Liam clearly needs to be taken out of the limelight and he's sent backstage to Vcarb to practice, he's been given an entire year.

Yuki has had an eternity in Vcarb, it's time for him to drive another car.

Marko said Yuki will be in RB for the year and there will be no more changes for this season.

has RB stuffed up creating this mess? yes it started with keeping Danny Ric and not preparing Lawson. this is the year they are going to use to prepare Lawson. what he does with this opportunity is now all up to him.

Yuki will do what Yuki does in the RB, I wish him all the best. maybe he'll be better than Perez, maybe he won't. i can't wait for the weekend.

Crazy but that's Japan for you. Lawson showing up and being happy for Yuki and wishing him all the best will go a long way in Japan.

The latest from Horner..

"Horner says the team became increasingly concerned by Lawson’s demeanour. “I think with everything that we saw in Australia and China, you could see that it was really affecting Liam quite badly,” the Red Bull team principal told Sky Sports F1 ahead of this weekend’s race in Japan.

“We could have left it, and I think that Liam is a driver with talent. Maybe within half a season he would have got there, but we just don’t have that amount of time.

“It was something that was very clear to the engineering side within the team, just how much Liam was struggling with it all, and you could see that weight upon his shoulders.

“The engineers were coming to me very concerned about it, and at the end of the day, I think it was the logical thing to do.”

Horner added that the team had taken the decision to be “cruel to be kind”.

“Of course, it’s horrible because you’re taking away someone’s dreams and aspirations, but sometimes you’ve got to be cruel to be kind, and I think that in this instance, this is not the end for Liam,” he said.

“I was very clear with him, that it’s a sample of two races. I think that we’ve asked too much of you too soon."

Against the tide, I actually think Yuki may do okay this weekend. Home race has massive pressure but I wouldn't be surprised if RBR have made some changes and made it easier to drive. Yuki to finish within the top 10 IMHO

That's a copout from Horner. Thinly veiled comment to support Liam but actually to deflect from the beleaguered CEO who is involved in issues at the workplace and on the track. He needs some good news bites but it doesnt wash with me. Then there is the issue that his driver pool is empty

Possibly. That car has been a dog for the last 14 races 2024 and this year. Now that Liam is out, now they make changes? Liam's issues were apparently on him and him only, so making changes for Yuki's/Liam's car seems a bit backward, or at least not in line why Liam has under performed. If they made changes and that was successful it will be spun as minor changes, Yuki was awesome. #glasshalfemptymorning lol

Interesting. Red Bull don't have the time because they still believe they are a chance at the WCC? Or, they want Tsunoda to take points off McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari so that Max can come through the middle and capture the WDC? On an admittedly very small sample size so far, neither scenario seems at all likely and the move on Lawson a bit 'beach furniture and Irish boats' IMHO.

Perhaps Red Bull expect a reverse of last season and, once the flexi wing TD comes into force, they will be sitting pretty to capitalise as McLaren begin to struggle. Could be genius if it plays out that way. But, have Wache and his team brought any upgrade to the car that has significantly improved the performance since Newey and Marshall left Milton Keynes? Horner has hitched his wagon to Wache in the same way he did with Ricciardo, he will be hoping it doesn't end up similarly.

On what we've seen so far the VCARB02 looks to be a good improvement on last year's car while the RB21 seems about the same as its predecessor. Lawson is in the best place to impress this weekend and I will be hoping he has an outing to remember, much like Singapore 2023.

i don't know man, they've been making changes since the day Perez complained, but every change they made, made Perez slower and Max faster.

i think not everyone is going to be able to drive it, and if you listened to the team radio, Lawson is not the person to be experimenting. over 50 laps he tried every single thing and complained every single time.

he has never driven an F1 car in most of the tracks. in fact he's hardly driven many F1 cars. not his fault. Yuki has been driving for 4 years. let him have a go.

Photo on F1.com of Max, Yuki, Liam and Isack Hadjar. Liam has a big smile, good on him. It is what it is, and he is moving on

Time for perspectives.

Liam couldn’t extract performance out of the Red Bull.
Best thing for him is to ditch it and celebrate he still has a drive in a car better suited to him.

Whilst it can be seen as a demotion, this feels like putting someone out of their misery.

staying in a car he could not perform in would seriously risk his career.
Sad how quickly his previous celebrated performances have been forgotten

Best advice career wise would be to seriously work on the attitude and PR whilst stacking up consistent solid performances better than his new team mate

sad thing is with a different decision by Red Bull management he could be loving and succeeding this year, instead of now fighting for a career chance. That’s piss poor.

It would help a lot if he could beat Tsunoda.
