It would help a lot if he could beat Tsunoda.

first focus on driving the Vcarb

next focus on improving

last think about beating people

i don't go round telling newcomers what their endgame is when what they need to do is learn and master the basics.

Huh? It *would* help a lot if he could beat Tsunoda. That is a fact. I'm not suggesting that's how he plans his approach to the next race.

Photo on F1.com of Max, Yuki, Liam and Isack Hadjar. Liam has a big smile, good on him. It is what it is, and he is moving on

There's also video of Tsunoda extending his hand and shaking with Lawson, which was a nice gesture on his part. He did look a little nervous in doing so though. He's also said some nice things about their friendship in relation to the driver swap. The two of them go back a distance, didn't Liam's parents put Tsunoda up when he was here for the Toyota Racing Series.

A reminder for the F1TV subscribers that Suzuka kicks off for them with the Weekend Warm-Up show on at 8:30 tonight.

The latest from Horner..

"Horner says the team became increasingly concerned by Lawson’s demeanour. “I think with everything that we saw in Australia and China, you could see that it was really affecting Liam quite badly,” the Red Bull team principal told Sky Sports F1 ahead of this weekend’s race in Japan.

I am sure there was a bit in there about if they were not trying for the constructor's championship things may have been different.  From my perspective, new car and new Red bull engine next year, so I suspect a need for both cars to be scoring points.  In that situation it kind make sense for the driver who has spent more time in an equivalent car to be the driver as there would be a smaller learning curve.   However, that could have been a decision for last year.

i think you'll understand the Horner statement if you listened to the team radio in Australia, followed by China sprint, followed by China race. it wasn't pretty.

Time for perspectives.

Liam couldn’t extract performance out of the Red Bull.
Best thing for him is to ditch it and celebrate he still has a drive in a car better suited to him.

Whilst it can be seen as a demotion, this feels like putting someone out of their misery.

staying in a car he could not perform in would seriously risk his career.
Sad how quickly his previous celebrated performances have been forgotten

Best advice career wise would be to seriously work on the attitude and PR whilst stacking up consistent solid performances better than his new team mate

sad thing is with a different decision by Red Bull management he could be loving and succeeding this year, instead of now fighting for a career chance. That’s piss poor.

Yeah. The RB20/21 is tough, it's tough for Max, its tough for Perez who was fired, same for Liam. Poison Chalice has often been said. Then, it was matching Max, now its fighting a dog of a car, better to be in a sound car, and be fighting Hadjar not the RB21. In a car that works, and arguably is so far the best outside of the top 4.

Do I want Yuki to fail miserably? Yes. Not because of Yuki, I like Yuki, everyone likes Yuki. Its about Horner and Marko being backed into a corner where everyone says its the car, and they have to agree, via PR of course. They have screwed it. Perez is proven, dumped. Gasly/Albon, enough said. Now they are out of drivers

You get what you put in

He has. 2023, drink your latte you are driving. No notice, no experience, most tracks he has not driven on, he equalled and often beat Yuki who then, had 87 races under his belt, hence Liam was picked as Yuki is a known talent, peaked, Liam can only improve. 2024, Yuki had the edge. Why? Under pressure from Liam so he drove harder, and had the odd off track experience, but he beat Liam, not by much. Why didnt he do that in his previous races???

Marko has stated that Yuki is in the car for the last 22 races. Hasn't driven yet. Honda 20M works. So WCC is over, as is DWC

Its more than feasible that he in an RB can beat Yuki in the RB21. RB21 is the better car, but a dog. If its a problem for Max, its a problem. RB is a solid car, where its predictable, that matters.

Checked the TAB, odds with no Lando, Yuki is 8th at 34/1  Williams next at 101/1 and 151/1 Ocon 151/1, Liam, Hadjar, Alonso and Gasly are 201/1

So as expected only the top 4 teams can win and Yuki is among them, doing a Perez, last of there top 4 teams. This tells me that Yuki will quail in 8th and finish 8th, easily. Lets see

Suzuka is a real driver's track. My favourite of the year and even better that it's now moved to Spring from Typhoon October. It'll be fascinating to see if all action Kimi can get his maiden podium.

My 2c, I think both Red Bulls will go well and get in the points on this non aero limited track. Maybe this is Red Bull admitting that it's young driver program hasn't fulfilled it's goal of finding a Verstappen 2.0 to partner with the original.

Surprisingly Liam is in the Driver's Press Conference on F1TV now. Thought Racing Bulls would try to shield him from the questions as much as possible this weekend.

Watching the onboards vs Max, Liam definitely throws the car into the corner in a more aggressive style, so he’d really need to adjust how he drives instinctively to make that thing work. Better to get him out.
wonder if Yuki can adapt his style without breaking him.

Lando has been doing that in the McLaren for several years. He said during the Daniel period that he didn’t like it but he was able to adapt more than Daniel who like Lisa just couldn’t work competitively like that.

tyre management is super important for the red bull by the looks of it. Get that wrong and you’ll stuff the tyres and suffer badly.

My eyes are on Aston for 2026. Newey and Honda and maybe max driving?

I see it the other way. Its the talk of the town story. Better that he turns up, says he was disappointed, but he will focus on the Racing Bulls for 2025 and hopes to do well.

Then, the story is over in as far as media vs Liam. It may hang around as media vs Red Bull/Horner/Marko and that can play out amongst that lot

In short, Liam draws his line in the sand and moves on

We saw the odd characteristic McLaren car break Daniel Ricciardo, so much that he never recovered, so honestly this is the better outcome for Liam.
Hopefully he can see that and doesn't wallow in the perception that he's failed, lost his shot at the top team etc.
Get in a standard car and drive the heck out of it to showcase your talent now, that's the focus.
Reality check, being anywhere near that Red Bull was damaging to confidence, career, PR, etc. Far better to get out and never go back.

All the talking stops and we see what Tsunoda and Lawson have, really looking forward to it.

100%  Watched an interview at Suzuka, he seems fine emotionally. As you say, he is in a normal car now, easier to beat Hadjar than the RB21
