Batman: I don't think he cares

And there's your problem

It's supposed to be a team sport
Max has already won the championship, and has the opportunity to make a gesture that would cost him nothing and potentially give his 'teammate' a big leg up, so Max yawns, shrugs and carries on, happy in his own universe.

Same deal for the same place in the Drivers for Sainz and Le Clerc. Didnt happen either

George should have been swallowed up and spat out, he was 100% vulnerable, but he outdrove Lewis, driver of the day

RBR seemed lost on tyres, they swayed towards Mediums often. Having said that the car was committed setup wise to that compound having started in the Sprint Race with them. Grip wasnt great on exit.

Not quite the same deal: AFAIK Ferrari didn't ask Sainz to give up his place for Le Clerc, RB did ask Verstappen repeatedly and he blew them off on the radio.
Also it would be asking Sainz to give up a podium spot, which is not at all the 'no cost' opportunity that Verstappen had.

It's a Jos sport. His dad must be unhappy about something against RBR. Probably told Max Sergio crashed on purpose and advised accordingly, made some threats.

Leclerc was pleading. No. 2 in the Drivers is a big deal

Ocon was forcefully told but he said no and argued. Unsure what happened there though, but this isn't new. Neither is team orders which is a LOT less than the orchestrated farce it used to be. Mercedes said to race, not hold the 1-2, even though Lewis's best chance of his stat. Purists will say earn what you earn. Max wise, there was another race where Checo messed it up, thats referring to the "you know my reasons"

Oh, it most assuredly IS a team sport and, regardless of how good Max might be or think he is, he will discover that he marches to the team drum just like every other driver.  I'm a big believer in karma finding its man every time, and Verstappen will come to regret not following his team's instructions this morning.

As I understand it from what I've read, Red Bull sat the drivers down prior to the race and made it clear that Max was to sacrifice his point's position to Checo to give the Mexican maximum points towards second in the Drivers Championship.  This is not about doing a favour to Checo to make him feel better about being No.2 in the team, this is entirely about Red Bull deciding they would quite like to have the Constructors Trophy AND the Driver's Trophy AND Runner-Up Trophy in their cabinet.

Max seems to think Red Bull need him more than he needs Red Bull.  My thought to that would be, where is he going to go?  Now that the Mercedes show is officially back, he's not going to dislodge Lewis or George anytime soon.  I think Ferrari are happy with LeClerc and, if they sack their entire race strategy team and get some people who know what they're doing, are a legitimate threat.  Who's left ... are McLaren, Alpine or Aston Martin realistically that close to joining the top echelon in the next couple of seasons?

Max has nowhere good and fast to go if he soils the bed at Red Bull, probably no-one that can pay him as well as Red Bull does.  He needs to be very careful about how much he continues throwing his toys, Horner wasn't happy, Marko wasn't happy, Mateschitz will be turning in his grave.  I thought Verstappen had grown up a bit in the past couple of seasons, that he'd put the childish petulance behind him.  Sadly not.

Ocon knew he could get past Vettel in front but Alpine wanted him to let Alonso through at the restart, so he argued.

He did get past Vettel very quickly and then Alonso also came through Vettel and Ocon (didn't see the actual pass, but they had said on the radio 'no defending' or similar).

Alonso was on fresh softs and I believe Ocon was on mediums at the time.

I think I'm dreaming here, but I'd like to see Red Bull stand him down at the next race and bring in the reserve driver.  They have nothing to lose since the drivers and constructors are sown up. Show him what happens to non-team players.

I'm seeing echos of multi21 and the seb arc when it all went wrong for his attitude after the first title.  Shame for PErez as he has been the perfect wingman to Verstappen.  I've never liked Verstappen, like I never liked his dad... their behaviour on the track was/is not good.

Well, I think that shows the theme of this thread TBH. Checo hasnt been the perfect wingman, he has rarely been in the mix to help Verstappen. Yes he could have should have given the point, but these last few comments are like his career is at a turning point??? Thats ridiculous. Issues like this happen all the time, whether it be give me the place as I cannot earn it, silly errors, penalties, etc, etc etc. Storm in a tea cup, but as this thread has often been, anti Max. Thats ok, he has won more in season than anyone else, despite not having a car 2 seconds per lap faster as another team had for years. he has had the least car damage in the year to date than every other driver.

Only narcissists do well in most sport, the nice guys don't win too many things. Most hide it well, some are on a different level. Michael, Lewis and Seb never obeyed team orders but they don't talk like that on team radio. Didn't watch Senna but probably the same.

Talk like what?  "You know the reasons"?  Or are you referring to the public argument when Ocon was forecfully told and said no?   Or when LeClerc was pleading or team orders? Or when Lando defends his position to let anyone past which caused a collision?
