Agreed. If he understands he only has to compete against the other 18 cars, he will be fine. He's had to scrap his entire career to make it this far, constantly at threat of not advancing to the next level so he's well-used to pressure. Moreso than the Albon's and Gasly's of this world I'd wager. Hopefully this all comes to pass for him.

Max will always be a benchmark.  It's on Red Bull to support these guys more.  I suspect there traditional ruthless approach started to cost them money. 
Yes they were chucking out new drivers quickly like Albon and Gasly, but the replacements weren't any better and had to come up to speed each time.
Albon was pretty wrecked trying to adapt to Max's preferred car setup which seems to be very touchy.

If it were me, I would give it to Sainz and put Lawson into the Toro Rossa Visa car.

Definitely feels like it's the end for Perez.

Next year will be great with multiple teams likely to be on it from the start, rather than the Red Bull dominance at the start of this year.
End of an era there.

Lewis in the Ferrari is my pick to watch.   He seems wrecked at the moment.

I’m quite excited by the new drivers, particularly Kimi. I really hope Mercedes can give him and George a competitive car. Given this was the first year post the zero side pod concept, plus the extra CFD and wind tunnel time coming 4th, it might happen.

Not much to see in FP. News of the day is Max and George, here is my take from what Ive read/watched.

 

The stewards meeting with them was Max super angry, expletives galore. However media talking to various parties said that wasnt correct. No doubt Max said his piece in a strong way with the odd swear word, but it seems it was a gulf less than what George stated. George has well exaggerated it, hence a borderline lie.

 

Max denies he said he will run George into the wall. No doubt he said something, but we have all seen heat of the moment stuff from all most drivers. Its either a heated exchange or a direct threat as George stated.

 

George stated Max is a bully. On track yes, within the rules, except if he goes over the rules, so he gets penalised, thats all fine. Whether Max wants to bully everyone who doesnt agree with him, thats debatable. When he messes up and is wrong, he wont tell you that, he will just say, we disagree. Not really bullying. Bully is a big word.

 

Who is under pressure? Max isnt, he does what he does, hence the trophy cabinet. George is a top driver, now he is team leader, seems to me that he is drawing a line in his new leadership role. I gather he is well liked as lead for GPDA, thats pretty impressive for a newish driver. But he's not a steward nor does he manage his PR that well. Speaking out is great, we all like that, but IMHO he crossed the line with the bully comment, that will rile anyone up. George pushed for a penalty for Max going slow, in a non dangerous way, thats fine, but while he said Max made it personal, George actually did that with the bully comment. They could kiss and make up, but given George never-ending commentary on his version of the saga, I dont see him walking it back a bit. Max stated he would say/do the same again in that situation, so a stalemate. And when inevitably they meet on track, and one of them made a genuine mistake, the other will say it was intentional. 

 

Having said all that, I love the passion both of them have. Been a long year as well, both of them have had more lows than highs this year, hopefully one of them will reach out, and its resolved over a beer

I expect it will happen. All 4 teams are close and they all have weaknesses that turn up on some circuits. McLaren is the most stable, but even then if one of the others get the car setup right, McLaren appear to be behind a few tads. But they get the car right far more often than the others so worthy Constructors Champions.

He's no better or worse than many before him. Given equal machinery he's definitely a better driver than Russell and I think Russell knows that.

 

As for Russell's leadership of the GPDA, I'm not sure that's a result of his popularity with the drivers so much as it is that nobody more senior wanted to do it. He also comes across as a bit of a busy-body and likes to stick his oar in so he's naturally suited to the role I would have thought.

 

I've found Perez's doubling down on driving next year to be pretty interesting. Along with Horner's comments that Checo knows the state of play from Red Bull's side. Lots of comments that Perez is just angling for a pay-out if his contract for 2025 is torn up, but I really can't see any scenario whereby Red Bull have to put their hand in their pocket to any significant degree. Perez was very lucky to be offered the new contract earlier this year, Red Bull were in the driving seat and could dictate any terms to Perez and he had no choice but to accept them. No way there was a clause favouring a sizeable pay-out to Checo if Red Bull decide to fire him. Given the relative strength of the two bargaining positions it would have been negligent of Red Bull's lawyers to allow any payment to the driver in case of termination.

 

Also think Hadjar did himself no favours in his FP1 drive in Verstappen's car. Probably drove within himself lest he break Max's car doing something stupid, but was slow and ranting a little on the radio. Is known to be a hothead which Tsunoda has demonstrated is not a desirable quality at Red Bull (unless you're Max Verstappen, in which case, be as mouthy as you want). Sounds like he's let slip that he will be in a VCARB seat next season, will it be for Tsunoda or Lawson? In the case of Lawson, will that be because the Kiwi's going to Red Bull or because he's being cut loose? Hopefully the former.

Agree with all that. Horner has stated that Checo knows he can make the right decision. The meeting of the minds is Monday. He has cost RBR millions. From FP that I watched this mornung, IIRC the last (bugger cannot remember the stats) but it was ridiculous the points that Max got vs what Checo got in not that many recent races)

 

Liam and Yuki equal in FP1/2. To me, bias aside, thats a win given the F1 and track experience. What I see is that Liam will be a Bottas. Perfect No.2 driver, no need to compete with Max, just earn points after points, he would excel in that role, knowing that if Max has a DNF or some other issue, he can be No.1 driver for the race. If he is asked to roll over, no issue.

 

Due I assume to performance clauses, Checo is not driving. He will still be paid, but the cost to promote Liam or Yuki is small. With 4 teams and 8 drivers, 2025 looks magic

Yeah, maybe George is trying to get under his skin, wont happen. More like marking his spot IMO

 

Nice words from George post quali when questioned about Max saying it will sort itself out. Played it down, more important things, got too much air time than it deserved, personal views. Mentioned that the GPDA photo with the two of them next to each other, front and centre, was to deliver a message of unity.

 

I like that, Agree to disagree, and move on.

I feel that Liam will take the 2nd Red Bull seat. Yuki doesn't seem to have many supporters in the Red Bull hierarchy, maybe because of the Aston Martin tie up with Honda from 26.

Wow

Cool to have a genuine race for high stakes going on.

Next year is going to be super interesting, likely without one dominant team building a huge buffer at the start.

Carlos is way too good a driver to not be near the front. Like the idea of red bull buying him to partner max.

Leclerc had had his chance as #1 driver now. He looked pretty sad there today as I think that realisation hit home.

I hope not, I'd rather he mature as a F1 driver in the Jnr team for 1 year before upgrading & potentially crashing out like Gasly/Albon. Bottas would make a good support driver for Max in the mean time.
