Munro averages 55 in first class at SR105. The guy cannot be ignored. But ODIs 25 at SR 105. I think down the order his average blossom from 25 closer to 40 and his SR would also be closer to 150 given he will be our pinch hitter for the final 20.

Munro is 2nd only behind MArtin Crowe for average for all players scoring 3000 runs or more.

Check this record out, I dont think this will ever be broken and Im wondering if its a world record still.

455 matches lol 792 innings HS 311NO 34346 with an average overall just under 50 haha, turner went on and on, he is one of our true greats.

What about Hadlee Test stats, not only was he the first man in history to 300 wickets, look at his bowling average 22.29, thats insane compared to our current lot. He also scored a double century in first class cricket.

Im trying to find some batsmen as good as Munro to trial but is stifling.

Commentary last night was 19 average. Not sure what period prior it was 23 at 104. First class cannot count

Hadlee? No he was in 22s. He is my hero. He had a secondary cancer removed last year. When he passes it will be a huge NZ cricket mourning.

Look at Astles ODI stats, very interesting, I know they are only 6 games, but to be a class all rounder you need to Avg above 30 with the bat and below 30 with the ball, well hes done that easily so far.

He was interviewed by hottie Laura the other day, he is ready. But from what I see of this team management they are conservative like the alt-right

Just get 300 she'll be right. That will kill this team. I can't see us winning the WC but with the talent we have we can, and not at long odds, but not if we are pushed to score a run a ball from ball one

Seems Munro is a leg in for the WC, so based on that from team management, my interest in the WC just declined somewhat. We were a chance, an outside chance but maybe not too outside, but now there is no chance with playing only 10 players in every game. The management has no innovation capability, or ability to select the best, most stable team.

For me this is interesting; lots of change in the bowlers and the batsmen seem to be immune regardless of form. Unsurprising it is starting to cause problems.

Yep. If you are a bowler and do a GREAT job like Bracewell then have a not great day, you are gone. If you can have days where you work wonders with the ball like Ish, you are gone. If you open and have an average of 19 (yes, I said 19) you are locked into the World Cup

Read an article this morning that included Latham, no we cant open with him, remember 2017? How ridiculous. Yes, 2017 he often got out, took 3 years to accumulate 10 runs. In 2019, he is super reliable, and his scoring rate is not spectacular but its definitely good as gold, and he brings that up once he has settled in. The perfect opener.

I'm not sure what to make of today's game. IMHO the management have no clear goal they are stabbing at answers. If Munro gets his annual 50, management will write 8 articles saying they had faith and were right, and we cant wait for the WC . Then the batting after him wont have to catch up and we get 315, so again we are going so well! Its a fickle game

Great discussion guys. Totally agree about Munro. The most alarming stat for him is that he averages higher in T20 than in ODI. Just doesn't make sense! If he averaged 35 with strike rate of 120+ then I reckon he would be pretty safe.

I reckon Latham is a good option for opening but I wonder if the management take into account his role as keeper when considering that? The effect that keeping for 50 overs may have on his batting could be a factor. If we bat first and he scores a century he could end up being right in the action for 90+ overs, possibly at the detriment for his keeping in the last half of the second innings. Pretty similar scenario if we are batting second. I know that he is a top level athlete and his fitness must be right up there but with so much responsibility it must have a cumulative effect. When McCullum gave up keeping, I reckon his batting was far better.

The current series has been a pretty good wake up call to the reality of just how good India are. It really has shown just how much better they are than us and if we are to beat them we need to nail every facet of the game. Someone said earlier that Bangladesh will be push overs like SL. I don't think I would make the same comment. I think Bangladesh are probably going to be a bigger challenge than SL in the ODI's and T20 (tests should still be in out favour - hopefully...). I wouldn't be surprised if we loose a few games to them if we keep playing the way we have been vs India.

I feel we will hammer Bangers. We have to. I feel that we haven't played badly against India. Managements fetish with 300 being par amd Munro being incapable of staying in have put immense pressure on the following batsmen, who would then need to play really well, and have a lot of one off luck, just to get a C pass mark from management. Even then if anyone starts off with a low scoring rate they will probably be ticked off. Poor for culture and cohesion.

With Colin its his first class average which is at times higher skill level than international, playing at an average higher than most in the team at 52 at a strike rate of nearly 100.

Its obvious Colin can bat. But I think the problem lies in the mentality of asking both our openers to hit 6s from the first ball against what I consider one of the most planned and professional teams in the history of the sport. Make no mistake India will own the game like Australia did whilst they had all those greats, Mcgrath, Warne, Taylor, Steve Waugh, Brett Lee, the list goes on and on but essentially an unbeatable level of talent until England got its act together and used strategy along with some very talented new playerrs. India is combining the Talent of that Australa, with the precise strategy of England at that point in time. They know how to get every single player in our team out and they will bowl 99/100 balls in that method.

I think it would be foolish to drop either Munro or Guptil (I think both were in the WC no matter what prior to this series), but I think we need to drop this Mccullum era of using the powerplay to scoe 10 per over for the first 10 against the majority of teams.

Munro is the new McCullum, and his average is 19. But he is not BMC and his average make him a liability. as does the pressure that flows through every other batsman starting with Guptill. I'm offering bigly that he can stay, but much further down the order, thats a big concession, but he cannot open, but he will and he will be in the WC, and that ois a huge fail. Guptill is safe. I dont want CdeG either, another part time batsman that gives a reward every now and then. and a part time bowler

What will be interesting today will be around India. Now they are without their best bowler, and now their best batsman and Captain in Kohli, I think the teams are very even. But I cant wait to see the decisions made by the Indian captain should things get out of hand.
