It's all been said above, if you're passionate about F1 then F1TV is a bargain, even at the full asking price.

Great news about Perez and not before time.

Looking forward to Lawson being named to the seat before the end of the week, and looking forward to him proving all the (largely European based) doubters wrong that he isn't good enough. All this 'Gasly couldn't cut it, Albon couldn't cut it' tripe has been riling me up for months since Lawson started to be in the frame. This kid's a Kiwi, a Hawke's Bay-born Kiwi, he'll be tough enough and good enough to shut them all up.

Would like to see Lawson take Pierre Hamlin with him to Red Bull but I'm guessing that's not really an option. Not sure Hugh Bird is the guy to be his Race Engineer, doesn't inspire confidence that Liam will get a fair shake with some of the decisions made. Anyway, time will tell.

I think he will be fine. He isnt under pressure to beat Max or stay within 1/10 of Max, he is there to garner points. Max wins, Liam 2nd or 3rd. Max 4th, Liam 5th

Yuki Pros

Much more experience in F1. Has improved. Less angry than he used to be

Yuki Cons

4 years, and he hasn't improved that much. I would rate him as good but not great. he is probably near his peak F1 skill level

Liam Pros

No F1 experience but turned heads in his last minute fill in 2023, has bene talk of the town ever since Perez began to falter

12 races in, and he fights Alonso and Perez.

Liam Cons

He is good but not great. Given he is in his infancy in F1 there should be a nice uplift year on year, and he would be better with 4 years under his belt than Yuki who has slowly grown into it, so this Con s actually a Pro

F1TV

Does anyone know if the latest Bravia TVs released this year will support the F1TV app natively?

My older 2016? Sony doesn’t but I could side load it successfully.
That worked better than Google chromecasting which started jerky and improve shut never settled very smooth.

not so sure about that. he hasn't even driven on many of the tracks, let alone in an F1 car. this will either elevate him into stuff of legends, or destroy his F1 career. there's no in between ...

Let's go!!

About bloody time, want a Red Bull Lawson cap for my birthday in January. Gotta believe he can do this and make himself, his family, and all Kiwi's proud in 2025!

F!TV, in my opinion, is a quality service.  Its only 1080p resolution but the stream quality on my 4k tv is good.  Has Watch live/from beginning for live events, in car and other timing stuff selectable during the race and replays are up quickly.  They produce a whole load of other content too as you'd expect.  You can choose between Sky Sports UK and F1TV commentators however the Sky Sports audio feed doesn't include their video so no Teds pit walk stuff or trackside talking with Martin Brundle.

I tend to watch Practice on Sky Sports for their added extras and then shift to F1 TV for the race and use uk audio feed.

Many thanks to all who responded to my queries about F1TV - very helpful.

As I suspected, it’s a no-brainer and I’ll go ahead with it - will try and get the discount at the beginning of 2025 season, if they have one.

The only drawback for me is not getting the trackside Martin Brundle type stuff. I really enjoy that and find it’s a good way to hear a lot of background info and the issues of the day, gossip and so on. Is there any sort of equivalent stuff on F1TV?

Over the course of the year there will still be times when I’ll get SSN month by month - and at those times I’ll still be able to watch Brundle et al.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Liam has had a different path to F1 than most other drivers. He has to scrap and fight his whole career. He beat Alex Albon comprehensively in DTN and should have won that series if not for manufacturers orders. He won his first race in Super Formula and came very close to winning that series.

Albon and Gasly show that if it doesn't happen in the Redbull team there is a path in F1 after being a Verstappen driving partner.

I hope he will step up and show the world what he can do.

IMHO you have answered your question. 11 races in, not been to many tracks, he did excellent 2023, 2024, arguably a tiny tad behind Yuki, who has had 4 years and 87 races to bed in. Pretty good if you ask me.

I honestly think with a much more competitive car and team behind him Lawson will surprise a few people in 2025. Can't wait!

Also, Max gets on well with Liam, he has been a mentor, taken a lot of interest in him. Saw that on a YT clip the other day. In many ways a match made in heaven for both.

100%. Many feel it will be a lot of pressure against Max, but I dont see that at all. He will be Max's wingman. If Max wasnt in contention in any race, in a winning or podium car, Liam can make a little hay. Otherwise he will drive as a No.2 driver, wingman, and give Max help, and RBR, points.

The only pressure that can exist is of Liam ends up 8th in most races and quali, if Max is at or near the front. Bearman got rave reviews filling in for Sainz, but in a leading car, was it that great?

No, it wasn't in my view. He finished 7th in a car that Sainz got out of his hospital bed and won in the very next race. Bearman got the great reviews because the press is pretty English-biased and they all think he's wonderful because he comes from Ol' Blighty. He has talent, no doubt, but there's a lot of unwarranted hype at this stage I think.

Part of Lawson's brief in 2025 will be to win the battle of the 'rookie' drivers. I expect him to comfortably best Bearman, Doohan, Bortaleto, and Hadjar. Not 100% sure about Antonelli. Idealy Lawson will be wheel to wheel with all the top teams but think his main rival may be Piastri at McLaren. If he can be there or thereabouts with the Aussie then I think he will have a secure future at RBR.

Interesting to read that the decision to promote Liam Lawson was not a unanimopus one at Redbull Racing.

Yuki was favoured by some of the heirarchy, but majority vote got Liam the seat.

Let's hope they keep him in that seat all season.

Quite a promotion - average top team salary is around $3-5m USD, plus add-ons.
Lawson was earning a few hundred thousand and paying for his own travel as a fill-in, from what I was reading.
He's 22 years old and going to be earning a minimum of $2m USD a year as a base salary...I'd say it'll likely be more like $3-5 as he's in a top team.

Merry Christmas Mr Lawson!
