There they go again, beaten badly by India 4-1 now getting the winning feeling here. This is not a WC ideal prep series.

Oh well, we have 3 ok warmup matches end May.

I thin NZ still have a very good chance in the world cup. But my gut tells me Eng will win.

Current standings

1. Eng

2. Ind

3. NZ

4. SA

But I think NZ are more like 4th, and Australia is the dark horse who whilst 6th can beat any of the top 4 or Pak on there day.

I just hope Kane has been indecisive in finishing off games deliberately to test the team, and in the WC if we have a team 50-4 he will bowl out his best bowlers all in a row.

Lockie Ferguson could easily had 6 wickets today, 5 at least if Taylor didnt drop 2 sitters unusually for him at slip. But definitely booked his place in the WC squad. Its in the all rounders. I think Sodhi has to be taken. Its between Santner, Colin DG, Astle Nesham. If it were me Id take Santner, Colin DG, Neesham and Seifert as we need to take a real Wicket Keeper more than another spinner.

OMG that stright lofted drive from guptil nearly takes out the crane cameraman, one of the biggest 6s ever. that shot has to be renamed the martin guptill drive. nobody executess it close to as technically perfect as him let alone as far.

I think Nicholls is under more pressure now than Munro. Hes got a far worse passed 18 months with the white ball.

Perhaps Nicholls back to 5 and Tom to open and Munro to 6.

Another 50 for Guptil.

If Tom could open at 5rpo or SR80 which he does normally. And Guptil hits his 50 in 30 balls like usual which is 10RPO, a 10 wicket opening partnership would be 75 which would be fantastic before losing a wicket.

I think those 2 could achieve that against the better teams. Then williamson, taylor, nicholls, all have mini partnerahips hopefully when guppy hits a 150, then we should easily be 150-200 by 30, then by 35overs 185-235, then come munro, seifertm nesham, colin dg, santner and we get 10-14rpo off the last 15 from them, thats the 335-385 STEAD is after, instead of putting both our t20 openers in ODI opening, use munro as the pinch hitter not the opener.

keep our more traditional wickets in the bank to partner up with our white ball specialists, ie Tom, Kane, Taylor, Nichols. If they play their natural game in amongst the guptil sorts, then no matter what we should have wickets in hand with 10 overs left and even if you only have 150 on the board but only down 3 wickets, you can still get to 300 with those t20 style players.

the mccullum era scoring fast from ball 1 is over.

Guptil since Feb 2015 average has gone up to 53 vs his all time 43 average. Also his SR is close 100. Its going to come down close if he bat on as long as Ross Taylor who is our best white ball batsman ever, also considering he has the burden of opening as well. He also has the most big centuries, with a 234no in them.

I agree with commentary, the Indian tour without Guptill really shows how important he is to the team as a platform.

Even if he only gets 50, he will do it often, open and score quickly. with 2/10 games being a big score as the backbone of a huge score.

I think we really need Seifert in the team, he shows more potential than Mccullum did as a keeper, I dont see why we are using Tom when hes not a 1st option keeper and to use Nicholls as a backup when he really is a 3rd backup keeper and not a white ball batsman. Sure seifert might not average 30 yet, but his t20 average shows how good he can be for ODIs along with his 1st class record. It really would give us another big hitter in that final 10. For me its replacing Nichols or Santner and Id rather keep Santner. I just dont understand why we persist using test players in whiteball, yes some can clearly, and Latham has just gotten to that point, I dont feel Nicholls is going to, similar to Guptill not keeping his spot as our Test opener, Nicholls has had enough games to prove his worth, partly its he bats so far down order its hard to score big unless you are a white ball specialist, but hes not good enough to move up the order, putting him opening for me is a disaster and a waste of a wicket.

What matches are those?

For me this would be my 1st 11

Guptil, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, Munro, Neesham, Seifert (k), Colin DG, Southee, Fergusson, Boult

Extras: Santner, Sodhi, Nicholls, Astle

That team will the one that scores the most runs most consistently, along with having 3 front line bowlers, a part timer with good economy in Munro and 2 all rounders in Colin and Neesham. That team will likely consistently score to 35 overs with minimal loss in wickets and score at 5-6rpo, with the last 15 overs easily going for 10-15rpo providing the wickets are in the bank.

But it looks like Larsen and Stead are not even looking at a real wicket keeper let alone one that will get us home and score big. Munro, Seifert, Neesham, Colin (or Santner) would be a menace for any team to contain and if we get to 180-220 in the 35th,  and have those 4 plus the tail in the bank, I can see us scoring big 300s often.

So I find putting Nicholls in either opening or 6 a waste of a spot. If someone in the top 4 get injured I think he should be there to back that up. But not picking a wicket keeper means every team is just going to stand out of their crease against Colin and Southee and potentially drop or miss catches a specialist keeper wont. I thought about Watling as he is our best keeper, but I think we need a traditional pinch hitter in the 7 spot. Id also cosnider Swapping Colin for Santner and Ferhusson for Sodhi on a truely turning wicket that isnt swinging.Santner to contain and score runs and Sodhi to take wickets with his ability at extreme spin and being able to turn it the other way with very little give away to the batsman, plus the straight ball also which is very deceptive.

Fergusson showed how devastating his yorker is today, he needs to bowl at least 1 an over, hes very much a Starc carbon copy and Starc consistently gets his wickets through fast unplayable yorkers.

Basically picking the team based on horses for courses.

Im watching more and more Womens cricket and the NZ ladies deserved their reocgnition today, good on NZ cricket, leading the way in sporting equality.

Speaking of which, the elite women are no joke, they can hit 6s as far as the men and some of the women pushing the 140s in bowling, its just getting better and better, to the point having the women play the same day as the men make a really good day out for the t20s and worth watching the ODIs by themselves.

How could it be possible for Steve Smith and Co to ever be playing international cricket again? Disgraceful cheats, should have been a lifetime ban. Surely having people 1-2% worse in skill but not cheating is the way forward.

On any day, anyone can win. They should play a best of 3 in any WC

There are 3 warms, SL, India and someone else, cant find it easily now. My point is we beat SL easily, we got thrashed by India, we will thrash Bangers. Bangers means nothing for the WC prep, its actually a disadvantage. The three warmups will help. You dont improve or get a worthwhile guide playing poor teams

Re this game, I saw a bit, didn't watch it. I will watch Federer vs Djokovic regardless of what time its on, I wont watch Federer vs a top 50 player anytime. Same with this game, it's academic and offers no WC insight.

What humerous to me, I saw an international ad ( I presume it is sky promoting) somewhere for the WC and it was really emotional etc, then it shows Smith and Warner crying lol. Im sure its a WC ad.

Re this game,

You will be pleased to see Munro fail again hehe, jokes.

This is the right team, the problem is they have Munro and Latham in the wrong spots. Why is our Test opener not opening and our best t20 player not down the line for the last 15 when you need him. Actually guptil is our best t20 player but clearly Munro is capable. His batting average is not much less than Neesham or Colin DG or Santner and his bowling figures similar, so he should be down the line and let Latham feed the strike to Guppy. I just don't get it, clearly he is capable but opening is not working. I think he will be in the squad but his placement in the lead up has done him no favours.

MJ Guptill, C Munro, Nicholls, Taylor, Nicholls, Neesham C de Grandhomme, Santner , Southee, Boult, LH Ferguson

That is our best Seaming team aside from missing Williamson they have chosen today but they need to put Munro down the line, I don't get the stupidity of the Coach. It should be this;

MJ Guptill, Latham,, Williamson, Taylor, Munro, Neesham C de Grandhomme, Santner , Southee, Boult, LH Ferguson

Again another game that tells me nothing other than Taylor and Latham link well and Neesham and Colin and Santner can bring it home. I already knew that. I want to see Munro ahead of them and accept his avg lifting to 30 but SR of about 120 (clearly higher in games when he scores)
