Watched the team radios on F1 youtube channel. Hamilton : Are there cars behind me with new tyres? (%$# !) Why didn't we pit for new tyres? (&^%$#@ !!!)

Kimmi out-qualified Vettel in Melbourne and was only 1/10th off Vettel's pole times in Bahrain and China.

The primary difference (in my opinion) for the difference in point-scoring outcomes between the two is the Ferrari strategy. Kimmi has been given the sub-optimal race strategy in every single race so far this year. (And has suffered all of the pitstop errors from Ferrari this year)

He's clearly the #2 driver there, but his pace is on par with Vettel, faster on many occasions.

Australia FP1 - Raikkonen FP2 - Raikkonen FP3 - Vettel Q - Raikkonen

Bahrain FP1 - Raikkonen FP2 - Raikkonen FP3 - Raikkonen Q - Vettel

China FP1 - Raikkonen FP2 - Raikkonen FP3 - Vettel Q - Vettel

Kim i keeps Vettel happy, no anger. The guys get on really well, so let him race, and use him. Maybe Ilm wrong but thats how I see it.

Was the same with Mark Webber and Red Bull Racing. Webber was constantly having to back down even though he was faster because thats what the team called for. The difference is it didnt make Webber happy at all.

Mark was an excellent driver, one of the top few of his time. He still probably rues the spin at Suzuka, he was in real contention for the title that year. He was competitive, so he wasnt happy, Kimi isnt competitive.

Totally agree. Mark was pushing Vettel so hard in the day, I think it was unfair of the team to ask him to back of so many times that he could have won. It was irritating. I was living in Aus at the time and Mark was loved by aussies obviously, and despite my connection to germany I felt some strange loyalty toward Mark and feel he got a hard deal.

Still now hes not their Im Vettel 100%.

Ges got a healthy lead still. Hopefully no more half baked drivers taking him out :-)

Hard to know if Kimi isn't competitve, as he hasn't been given a clean run at Seb. Every time Kimi is ahead, Ferrari cocks up his strategy or doesn't put his tyres on properly or something else.

Agree that if Kimi is behind, he doesn't appear to be feisty like say, Max would, or have that fire/drive/hunger to get more positions.

I was a bit harsh. hes on form right now, true. But for a long while now he never seems to get there compared to his teammate, allowing for favouritism.

I really feel that he will have to drive like a No.2 driver, which is a pity.

Yep - my impression is that Kimi was a designated #2 driver before the season started. He's taking opportunities to demonstrate his pace when provided the chance, but he isn't motivated to attack from behind in the same way that the Merc or RedBull drivers are because he knows he'll never be permitted to challenge Vettel.

The same dynamic is shown when they're alongside each other on race starts. Raikkonen always submits track position. It will be interesting if he choses to make a point or two this year by not always jumping out of the way... (Eg. Singapore last year)

I have no doubt like they wanted from Webber, he is seen as their number 2 driver. There thinking is Ferrari, then Vettel. They arent hiking KR at all, thats how it looks.

Thats not racing, thats removing the driver. And its really wet, so they dont race, thats rubbish. Drive slower. The latest term is sanitising the track.

There are a lot of factors before you even start talking about the driver. Having said all that, I find F1 good right now.

Yeah I don't think it's too bad this season so far. I'm not super old but I don't really recall a season where there was no more than just two drivers going for the championship (excluding the years one driver/team completely dominated).

That was my thoughts at the beginning, I was about to turn off the TV when it seemed like every car was 1.5-2 seconds behind the other and no one was closing and then the pit lane passing started.

Lucky I didn't give up because I still enjoyed the race even though with DRS it still feels like faux motorsport entertainment. At least KERS is gone...

KERS was push to pass as you had it for just 6 seconds per lap

ERS is about 33 seconds, so its push to pass, defend, hammer time before pitting and so on.

i dunno if vettel had got points from SH he would be so far out in front now. as it is hes still 9 points in front. i have no doubt he has a lot more GP wins left this year and will develop a clear break. Its the red bull they put in the car.

Germany are spoilt for races to go watch close by. No wonder they spit out so many great drivers.

So much this. Man there have been some stupid decisions by many teams already this year.

Fresh tires do offer a lot in some circumstances. Hoping for the long game leaves you very vulnerable at the end.

That start by Vettel was really unwarranted in the last race. Cost kimi several places, and it would be hard to say that type of behaviour was in the best interests of the team/constructors championship.
