I see today there's been several headlines about the Superbowl.  Is it a fish bowl or a fruit bowl?  :)

No one I know of anyone who ever talks about the Superbowl. It's pretty well irrelevant to nearly all New Zealanders.

It mystifies me how something as insignificant as this is in New Zealand gets so much column space. This space/bandwidth would be better used on something remotely of interest to the general New Zealand public.  There's national sports teams from this country that don't get this sort of coverage and deserve it ahead of the likes of the Superbowl.

The Superbowl isn't the only example it's just one that is in the news at the moment.  The "World Series Baseball" is another.  Ice hockey another.

Is it just lazy journalism, reporters just picking up feeds and republishing them.  If so they need to think about their readership a bit more.

It maybe bigger on Oz, and as many articles are now written from over there, which could be why we are getting a alot more coverage. Also what becomes a big story in the US, tends to become a big story here, because reporters are viewing the US news websites
It is a bit like an american actor dying being the top news story on NZs tv news, is that real big news and is it that relevant to NZer? It's big in the US, but not sure it deserves to be the top news story in NZ.

The best parts of the superbowl are the expensive innovative halftime ads.

I like it. I watched on Sommet Sports. Some people in NZ are interested in other sports other than Rugby, Cricket etc..

Sport?!? Come on now, this is Geekzone ... it's a well known
fact that true geeks hate all sports.

They also don't go out anywhere, so those people trying to scalp
event tickets here are wasting their time too.

The closest I get, and want to get, to sport is playing snooker on the
computer. :-)

I really enjoyed the NFL and it's probably what I missed the most when I kicked SkyTV into touch.

After Sommet started screening it I grabbed the NFL Game Pass app off the Play store and went back and watched the good games.

If you want to see the best ever pass by a QB (imo) go back and have a look at the NY/Denver game in week 2.

Eli Manning might look like he's just stepped off the set of the movie Deliverance! but he sure can throw a football.

Yep, that sums it up for vast majority here in NZ.

It pretty much sums up the reaction anywhere outside North America ... the "Superbowl" is another of those "American only" events, like "World" Series Baseball. :-\

Hmm. I tend to look in the morning and evening, might have missed the time of day when it was featured. I did click on the story about RHCP and Mars earlier this evening. Imho there is usually interest in the halftime performance from an entertainment point of view. From an editorial point of view I guess it's almost free content, and they can measure interest through the clicks. So the answer is probably enough people clicking to justify it. But who wins and loses, a lot less interest in that I'm sure.

Baseball also has never appealed either, i guess i don't understand american sports.
