It is my personal wish that all wars stop and war starters be brought to justice. Alas, some things are not possible.

Transcript:

Igor Bezler: We have just shot down a plane. Group Minera. It fell down beyond Yenakievo (Donetsk Oblast).

Vasili Geranin: Pilots. Where are the pilots?

IB: Gone to search for and photograph the plane. It's smoking.

VG: How many minutes ago?

IB: About 30 minutes ago.

SBU comment: After examining the site of the plane the terrorists come to the conclusion that they have shot down a civilian plane. The next part of the conversation took place about 40 minutes later.

"Major": These are Chernukhin folks who shot down the plane. From the Chernukhin check point. Those cossacks who are based in Chernukhino.

"Greek": Yes, Major.

"Major": The plane fell apart in the air. In the area of Petropavlovskaya mine. The first "200" (code word for dead person). We have found the first "200". A Civilian.

"Greek": Well, what do you have there?

"Major": In short, it was 100 per cent a passenger (civilian) aircraft.

"Greek": Are many people there?

"Major": Holy sh----t! The debris fell right into the yards (of homes).

"Greek": What kind of aircraft?

"Major": I haven't ascertained this. I haven't been to the main sight. I am only surveying the scene where the first bodies fell. There are the remains of internal brackets, seats and bodies.

"Greek": Is there anything left of the weapon?

"Major": Absolutely nothing. Civilian items, medicinal stuff, towels, toilet paper.

"Greek": Are there documents?

"Major": Yes, of one Indonesian student. From a university in Thompson.

Militant: Regarding the plane shot down in the area of Snizhne-Torez. It's a civilian one. Fell down near Grabove. There are lots of corpses of women and children. The Cossacks are out there looking at all this. They say on TV it's AN-26 transport plane, but they say it's written Malaysia Airlines on the plane. What was it doing on Ukraine's territory?

Nikolay Kozitsin: That means they were carrying spies. They shouldn't be f***ing flying. There is a war going on.

@Flightradar24 tweeted earlier that some airlines saying they "haven't flown over Ukraine for months" are lying. They have data showing they flying over yesterday. They won't name the airlines involved though. They say that airlines shouldn't lie to their customers.

Haha public FAIL from one airline in particular who has just recently retracted their 'we have not recently flown over Ukraine' twitter statement.

Care to name some names? I have failed to discovery who they were. I am reading Qantas saying they didn't fly thru that area but not sure if they were caught out or if it's true.

All I know there's another 2 flights around MH17 at that time. SQ351 & AI113
so it could have been any of them get hit.

International observers arrived at the site today but were only there for just over an hour due to the rebels being touchy and drunk.

If they don't like the observers being there do they have something to hide?

we can conclude that the rebels did shoot it down.  Also if nothing to hide why are they taking the missile launcher minus 2 missiles back to Russia if they didnt fire the missiles.   Its also obvious they thought it was a Ukraine transport plane.  Rebels also the only ones to gain shooting down planes as Ukraine use transport planes and helicopters. The rebels dont so no need for Ukraine to shoot missiles.
  So where to.   Obviously there needs to be an apology for mistakenly shooting it down.  Also Russia needs to take some of the responsibility.
But what if they dont.
  Unlikely to start world war over it so what else.  UN slaps them with wet bus ticket and apply more sanctions which honestly wont hurt Russia too much.  Stop Putin from attending summit meetings,

Unless they want to start ww3 then there isnt much else they can do and Putin and rebels know that so will keep up the propaganda campaign.

They will go by the much used premise world wide that if you tell a lie often enough, people will believe the lie and not the truth.

So if Russian is ultimately responsible now, who will "compensate" the families?

networkn: So if Russian is ultimately responsible now, who will "compensate" the families?

The airline and therefore the insurers. If the insurers manage to wiggle out due to an act of war clause (debatable) then financial responsibility will fall back on the airline, and therefore on the government of Malaysia.

As for Russia being found responsible (early days yet) and accepting responsibility, if that should occur in reality that would be a long drawn out diplomatic process which may or may not conclude. Imho it would be unlikely to occur while Putin is at the helm and will probably wait for at least one or two changes of government.

If Iran Air flight 655 was precedent for what happens when stupid mistakes are made, then you can expect:
No direct admission of guilt and no apology from Russia.
No prosecution or action taken against military personnel responsible.  They even get service medals.
Payment of some compensation in about 8 years time, with no admission of guilt, and at best only an expression of "regret at the loss of civilian lives".

The above was the response by the "good guys" when they stupidly blew an airliner out of the sky.

It's probably unrealistically optimistic to expect Putin and his vodka-addled corrupt regime to even raise themselves to that low level.

megalomaniacs only go away when they die either naturally or otherwise.

We are at a dangerous cross road, can only hope that somehow common sense prevails....... don't hold your breath.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
