I was on a domestic flight a couple of weeks ago (Napier to Auckland and return) and was mildly surprised to hear that FAA regulations forbade the Samsung Note7 from being onboard (carry on or checked in baggage).

I have no issue with airlines protecting their planes (and the respective paying cargo ...) ... but surely the FAA (As I understand it an American National Authority) has no jurisdiction on a New Zealand regional aircraft?  (That based on the range for an ATR 72, would likely reach the Chatham islands as the furthermost afield destination)

Anyone else have any theories?
